Joanne Pounds officiating. Interment will follow in Christ Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 - 7 PM, Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at Goldens. Mrs. Shoemaker, a retired teacher at Eastside Elementary, passed away Sunday, July 22, 2018 surrounded by her family and friends. She was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church Bells Of Joy bell choir. She enjoyed dancing, bird watching, and reading the Bible. Mrs. Shoemaker was widowed at the age of thirty-seven and was left to rear her two children alone. She went back to school to obtain her teaching certification and taught second grade for the majority of her nineteen year teaching career. She is survived by her son, Brian Shoemaker, and special friend, Jackie Mardis; daughter, Robin Baggarly, and husband Scott; granddaughter, Meredith Chappell and husband Brandon; special cousin, Earline Hattan, long-time companion, Louis Guirlando, and brother-in-law, Murray Shoemaker and wife, Melba. Mrs. Shoemaker is preceded in death by her husband, Clifton Shoemaker, Jr.; parents, Aaron and Mamie Meredith, and daughter-in-law, Faith Shoemaker. Serving as pallbearers will be Tony Giurlando, Greg Green, Brandon Chappell, Rick Hixon, Curtis Stephenson and Matthew Mardis. Mrs. Shoemaker’s family would like to extend their special thanks to her care givers at Oakwoods Home for the Elderly, the ER staff at Morehouse General Hospital, and the ICU staff at Glenwood Regional Medical Center.
