SLAYTER Funeral services for Mr. Robert E. “Bobby” Slayter, age 66, will be held at 2 PM, Wednesday, June 21, 2017, in the chapel of Golden Funeral Home with Bro. Britt Dupree and Bro. Phillip McCready officiating. Interment will follow in Pine Grove South Cemetery. Mr. Slayter, a resident of Bastrop and formerly of West Monroe, and a retired maintenance tech, passed away Sunday, June 18, 2017. Mr. Slayter was a member of Central Missionary Baptist Church. He adored his family and never met a stranger. He loved Jesus and his church family at Central and singing was one of his passions. He loved the choir and now is singing in the Heavenly Choir. Bobby enjoyed visiting with the Social Security Hounds Sunday School Class. The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Cherry Ridge Nursing Home for the devoted care of their loved one. The Morehouse Council on Aging held a special place in Bobby’s heart as well and the family is grateful for the attention and concern shown for Bobby. Mr. Slayter is preceded in death by his parents, Robert L. Slayter and Louise Bowman Davis; and a brother, James Slayter. Mr. Slayter is survived by his sister, Betty Watkins and husband Jimmy of Bastrop, LA; nieces, Christy Quirk and husband Andrew of Bastrop, LA, Jennifer McMillan of Daphne, AL, Melanie Jenks and husband Steve; nephew Jeremy Watkins of Bastrop, LA; and numerous great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Steve Jenks, Phillip McCready, Jeremy Watkins, Andrew Quirk, Hayden Dupree, and David Ingram. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Watkins, and Social Security Hounds Sunday School Class. The family will receive friends from 5 PM until 7 PM Tuesday at Golden Funeral Home.
