A time of visitation will precede the services beginning at 9:00 AM. Private family interment will follow at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Plain Dealing, LA. Mr. Swain, a minister, and resident of Bastrop passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at the age of ninety. He is preceded in death by his wife, Tommie Lou Miller Swain; parents, J. E. and Hattie Swain; grandson, Robert Waymon Swain III; and eight brothers and sisters. Survivors include his sons, Jason Cox, and wife Elizabeth and Robert Waymon “Bob” Swain, Jr., and wife Ashley; siblings, Lloyd Swain, Floyd Swain, and Ida Ruth Cowan; grandchildren, Britt Cox, Elizabeth Branning, Katy Swain, and Cooper Swain; great-grandchild, Marshall Branning; and the daughter he never had, Pam Stokes. Mr. Swain was a Church of Christ minister for sixty-five years, having served the Lord in churches in Indiana, Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas, and Mississippi. He served as a missionary for two years in Cameroon, Africa, as well as a teacher of preachers down through the years. He held a Master of Divinity Degree, as well as a Doctor of Theology Degree, yet, all the while still considering himself a student of God’s Word as well. He preached over four hundred gospel meetings through the years in churches all over the country and around the world. He held a commercial pilot’s license and was a crop duster for fourteen years, as well. He also obtained his instructor’s license and afterward, assisted numerous students in obtaining their pilot’s license. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time when time allowed. Encapsulating the life of a man such as Waymon Swain is impossible in just a few short words, but he has been described as the epitome of a true renaissance man. He now enjoys the rewards of his labors and has entered into the joy of the Lord that he served faithfully for so many years.
