SHELBY JR. THOMPSON

Graveside funeral services for Mr. Shelby "Gene" Thompson, Jr. are scheduled 
for 2 PM Thursday, March 24, 2016, at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery, 
Monroe, LA, with Rev. Andy Myrick officiating. Mr. Thompson, a retiree of 
International Paper Company, passed away Monday, March 21, 2016, at the age 
of seventy-four.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Britt Thompson, of Bastrop; daughter, 
Cappie Griffin and husband Randy, of Sheridan, AR; son, Jeff Thompson, of 
Carl Junction, MO; sisters, Geneva Johnson, of Bastrop, Shirley Carroll, of 
Winnfield, LA, and Wanda Matlock and husband Marvin, of Marion, LA; 
brothers, Bill Thompson and wife Landa, of Texarkana, AR, and Mike Thompson, 
of Monroe, LA; grandchildren, Stephanie Tubbs and husband Zach, Shelby 
Fortenberry, Audry Thompson, and Jenna Thompson; great grandsons, John Ross 
Tubbs and Kagan Griffin; and host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mr. Thompson is preceded in death by his parents, Shelby and Ella Thompson, 
and a sister, Sandra Hayes.

He dearly loved his family and was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting. He 
was a member of the National Rifle Association. Mr. Thompson retired from 
International Paper Company after a career spanning thirty-six years.

There will be a visitation on Wednesday, March 23, 2016, from 5 - 7 PM at 
Golden Funeral Home.
