Doug Edwards officiating. Visitation will be held Monday, November 16 from 10 AM until 12 Noon at Golden Funeral Home. Mr. Travis, a resident of Bastrop, LA, passed away peacefully at 1:15 PM on Thursday, November 12, 2015, at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe, Louisiana. He was born in Bastrop, Louisiana, on April 23, 1940 to the late Jim and Lillian Travis (Regan). Donnie graduated High School while enrolled in the United States Army. He married the love of his life, Mary Lou Hughes on July 20, 1962 in Bastrop, Louisiana. He served in the United States Army at Travis Air Force Base in California as a Private First Class for three years. Donnie enjoyed a career as a Master Craftsman until his retirement in 2002. His creativity continued in all aspects of his life through his paintings, carvings, and various musical instruments he enjoyed playing. He was passionate about all things outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. His sense of humor is what will be missed the most; Donnie always had a joke ready and had the gift of timing. He had an immense love for children, and would be seen teasing them every chance he could get. Survivors include his wife: Mary Lou; daughter: Sheila Roberts and husband Michael of Hilton Head Island, SC; son: Barry Travis and wife Renee of Jupiter, FL; grandchildren: Tucker Roberts, Ellie Roberts, Austin Travis, Kaley Hirahara, Chloe Turner and Gabriel Turner, Christian Toner, and Elliott Toner. He was preceded in death by his parents: Jim and Lillian Travis; siblings: James Travis, Gaines Travis, Helen (Sook Travis) Wilson, Cleo (Travis) George, Leola (Travis) Lloyd, Opal (Travis) Achord and Bobby Travis. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital in memory of Donnie Travis.
