He was a native of Bastrop and a longtime resident of Baldwin. Mr. Williams was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served during World War II on the aircraft carrier Belleau Wood. He was the 1952 Light-Heavy Weight Golden Gloves Champion of Mississippi. He was a teacher in St. Mary Parish for 33 years and was also active in several fraternal organizations. He is survived by his wife, Helen Blanchard Williams of Baldwin; three daughters, Paula Capak, and her husband Chris, of Franklin, Gladys Lee Warren, and her husband Thomas, of Youngsville, and Lisa Hebert, and her husband Brady, of Baldwin; two sisters, Luvinya Stephenson and Edys Jones, both of Bastrop; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his parents, James Monroe Williams and Gladys Freeland Williams; three brothers, Henry, Clarence and R.W. Williams; and one sister, Katherine Williams. Visitations will begin Monday, Feb. 16, at 6 p.m. at Ibert's Mortuary in Franklin, with a Masonic Service at 7 p.m. Visitations will conclude at 9 p.m. with Military Honors. It is Mr. Williams' wish that following visitations his body be cremated. The family will have a private burial service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston St., Suite 200, Lafayette, LA 70503.
