Mr. Dismukes is a leading member of the bar of Natchitoches Parish, and a member of the firm of Jack & Dismukes. He was born in Shelby County, Tenn., on January 26, 1851, and is a son of Thomas H. and Mary Jane (Hager) Dismukes, natives of the Old Dominion, the father born in 1802 and the mother in 1812. The parents moved to Arkansas in 1854, and settled in Columbia county, where the father carried on agricultural pursuits for some time. He died in Fayette County, of that State, in 1879, but his widow is still living and makes her home at Louisville, Ark. Marcus L. Dismukes, the fifth of ten children born to the above union, seven of whom are still living, received his education in the common schools and under the tuition of Prof. William c. Jack, who is one of the most scholarly men of this country. Mr. Dismukes began teaching at the age of nineteen years and continued that occupation until 1877, when he came to Natchitoches. Here he began the study of law in the office of William H. Jack, and was admitted to the bar in 1879. He began practicing his profession here in 1881, and in the following year formed a law partnership with William H. Jack which now continues. He has been successful from the very beginning and now ranks among the prominent lawyers of Natchitoches Parish, or this part of the State. In Politics he adheres to the Democratic party. Mr. Dismukes was married in 1880, to Miss Katie C. Jack, a native of Arkansas, born in 1857, and the daughter of Prof. W. C. and Catherine (Welborn) Jack. To Mr. and Mrs. Dismukes have been born four children: Mary, Ada Ruth, Marcus L., Jr. and Charles H. Mr. Dismukes is a member of the A. O. U. W., L. of H., and K. of P., Natchitoches Lodge No. 86.
