Martha G. Gardner was a wife and mother. She had 13 children--all did not
reach maturity.  Martha (Mattie or Matild) was of French heritage; the family 
had strong Louisiana ties.  Supposedly Martha married a man of Indian blood.
   

The French-Indian angle is an interesting factor--how,when,why?  Add the Black
blood to the pot.  More social questions.
