Mr. Normand was born in Cloutierville, La., October 22, 1827 to Dr. F. M. Normand and wife, the former of whom was born in France, October 4, 1800, and came to the United States in 1824, settling in Cloutierville, but dying in Natchitoches, September 3, 1873, being a physician, merchant and planter. His wife was Miss Marie Lolette Rachal, who was born in the parish of Natchitoches in 1810, and died here September 20, 1843. Jules Honorat Normand is the eldest of two sons and four daughters born to his parents, three of which family are now living. In 1840 Jules entered the Royal College of Borbon in Parish, France, where he spent seven years, then returned to this country, and for two years taught a public school in the lower part of Natchitoches Parish, the French language taking the place of the English. From 1850 to 1855 he was engaged in farming in this parish, after which he went to Cuba, where, until 1869, his attention was given to planting, the photograph business, and to managing a hospital. In 1866 he returned to his old home, binging with him seventy five Chinamen to work on different plantations in this parish, but went back to Cuba and remained there, as above stated, until 1869. He then came back to Louisiana, purchased three plantations in Natchitoches Parish, and was actively engaged in planting and merchandising until 1875, when he discontinued the former occupation and carried on the latter business exclusively in Cloutierville until 1884. He has been a resident of Natchitoches since 1889, and is now conducting one of the best hotels in this section of the State. He marriage, which took place on September 25, 1849, was to Miss Elizabeth Aurelia Anty, who was born in the parish August 30, 1838. To them six children have been born: Maria, Cecilia, Aurelia, Julian, Jules H. and Francois M. Mr. Normand is a Democrat.
