All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** HARRY PERCY Harry Percy, civil engineer and surveyor, was born in Ireland, may 4, 1839, and is the second son of Gilbert Percy, LL. D., of County Lutrim, Ireland. The family moved to Canada in 1849, but in 1861 came to Louisiana, his father and mother returning to Ireland, where they still reside. He joined the Second Louisiana Infantry as private in 1861, and was discharged at Richmond, Va., as a sergeant, and shortly after was appointed lieutenant of engineers, a position he held to the close of the war; since that time he has been engaged in surveying and civil engineering. He was married in 1863, to his cousin Marcella Chaplin, second daughter of Hon. Judge Chaplin, and has two children living.: Richard and Maude. He votes the Democratic ticket at all times, and he and family attend the Episcopal Church of which he is a conscientious member.
