My grandmother, Melvin Russell Hardamon was the cook for the school. My father, Charlie Crawford Hardamon graduated from Cypress High. I have the marble cornerstone from that school. It was given to my grandmother, Melvin Russell Hardamon. It states: Cypress High School Cypress, Louisiana - 1921 Promoters: J. F. Salter - C. W. McNaughton J. B. Dowden - Hattie Salter J. H. Simpson - C. L. Russell J. J. Melanson - F. M. Dewil L. C. Melanson J. W. Smith, Architect Perin & Prudhomme, Contractors Charles Leander Russell was born in Alexandria, Rapides, Louisiana and he married Louise (Lou) Vianna Dempsey (26 Jan 1873 Tx - 19 Aug 1921). Both are buried in the Russell Cemetery, Kisatchie National Forest, Natchitoches, Louisiana. I believe the Russell Cemetery is now on land owned by Mike Harrington who is my cousin and the grandson of Lena Russell Harrington. It is deep in the piney woods and is difficult to find. Mike Harrington has to mark a trail for it to be found. Additional Comments: Charles Leander Russell was a great believer in education. And from the stories I have been told, active in his community. My grandparents, Cobb Reginald (Cobby) Hardamon and Melvin Russell Hardamon, along with their daughter, Doris Gwendolyn Hardamon Flenniken are buried at Weaver Cemetery. (Please note that when Weaver Cemetery was audited, someone listed my grandparents as Harringtons! That is absolutely not true. My grandmother's sister, Lena Russell Harrington is buried next to them in the "Hardamon" plot. If this can be corrected, please do so as this is so erroneous.)
