Pleaded not guilty, and for trial, places himself upon a Jury of his country. This case, having been called for trial, the State represented by W. P. Hall (district attorney) announced itself ready for trial and the accused represented by E. F. Presley, (attorney at law) announced himself ready for trial, the said accused Porter Brown being at the time in open court in his own proper person. Whereupon the court ordered that a jury be drawn and empiled according to law. And thereupon came a jury of good and lawful men who were duly elected empaneled and sworn according to law to try the issue. Joined between the State of Louisiana and the said accused Porter Brown. In this case to wit: Arch Murray, Benjamin McGee, J. P. Corley, Enoch Holloway, W. H. Sherwood, C. P. McDonald, John Dillard, John Tyles, G. J. Smith, Thomas Smith, Samuel Sucius, and John McCormac . Whoafter having all the evidence adduced, both by the prosecution and defense and the arguement of Counsel on behalf of the State and the accused were duly charged by the Court according to law. And then retired to their consultation soon and after deliberating for some length of time, returned into Court and pronounced and delivered through their foreman, C. P. McDonald, in the presence of the accused who was also in open court. The following verdict to wit: We the Jury find the accused Porter Brown guilty in manner and form as set forth in the bill of indictment. The Jury was then polled by order of the court and as each Juror's name was called the verdict was read aloud to him and he was asked if that was his verdict and each replied that is was. Whenupon the Jury was discharged and the accused remained to the custody of the Sheriff. Whereupon the Court adjorned until nine o'clock tomorrow morning. February 21st, Thursday morning, the court opened according to adjournment and minutes were read and adopted. The State of LA vs Motion for new trial filed and overuled Porter Brown #66 The State of Louisiana VS Porter Brown #66 In this case, the prisoner Porter Brown being in open court was asked if he had anything to say why sentence should not now be pronounced upon him according to law. And having replied the Court proceed so then and there to pronounce the following sentence to wit: That you Porter Brown be taken back to the Jail from whence you came and then be confined until the Governor of this State appoints a day for your execution and that you then be hung by the neck until you be dead. And May God have mercy on your soul. The prisioner was then sent back to Jail in custody of the Sheriff.
