All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Sharon Hensley texhens@comcast.net June 16, 2010, 5:41 pm Source: Conveyance Record 49, Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana, Pages 74-76 Written: October 6, 1854 Recorded: November 19, 1854 No. 10721 Sarah Carroll to Her Children, Partition November 19th 1854 This instrument made by act under private signature this 6th day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty four between Sarah Sheridan widow Carroll acting in her own right and as surviving wife of Michael Quinn and of William Carroll, and her children to wit: Sarah Quinn, wife of William Smith, who joins with and assists her in this act, Charles Quinn, both issue of the former marriage between Sarah Sheridan and Michael Quinn deceased, Madison Carroll, Eliza Carrol, wife of Charles Long, who joins with and assists her in this act, Caroline Carroll, wife of Fountain G. McDonald who joins with and assists her in this act. Witnesseth; that the aforesaid parties, in order to adjust and amicably arrange their respective rights and interests in the successions of the late Michael Quinn and William Carroll and a fair division of the property which the said Sarah Sheridan widow Carroll wishes voluntarily to make among her children, have entered into the following agreements and stipulations: - 1st Sarah Quinn wife of William Smith, agrees to accept and hereby does accept in full satisfaction of all the rights and interest she may have in her late father’s succession, and also for her Share in the property now being given by her mother to her natural children, that tract of land lying and being on the Bayou LeBain in the Parish of Natchitoches, being the same now in her possession, confirmed by act of Congress to Sarah Sheridan and heretofore conveyed to her husband by public act passed before W. A. D. Speight Notary Public on the 15th day of August 1842 and now of record in the Recorders office of Sabine Parish, containing Six hundred and eighty and 36/100 acres; Charles Quinn agrees to accept and does hereby accept for all his rights and interest in his father’s succession and his share of the property now being partitioned by his mother among her several children the Negro girl named Easter about thirty five years old and her child Amos about four years old both slaves for life and also to accept in full considerations of his services heretofore rendered to his mother and in taking care of and managing the property generally thereof another of all that tract of land lying and being on the Bayou LeBain containing in all Six hundred and forty acres confirmed in the name of the heirs of Michael Quinn, one horse, one yoke of oxen, the stock of horned cattle and hogs now belonging to the plantation and agreed to pay one hundred and forty dollars to Mistress Walmsley bros. Madison Carroll hereby accepts for his share contemplated to be portioned by this act, the slaves for life George about eighteen years old and Clara about nine years old; Caroline Carroll, wife of Fountain G. McDonald, accepts for her share of the property to be divided by this act, Cornelia eighteen years old and Frank about eleven years old. Eliza Carroll wife of Charles Long hereby accepts for her full share in the property now being portioned, Polly about thirty six years old and Van about twelve years old, both slaves for life. – It is further agreed and understood between all the parties of this act that one fourth of the tract of land confirmed in the name of the heirs of M. Quinn and the slaves Betsy about thirty years old and Edward about six years old shall remain in the possession of Mrs. Sarah Carroll until Thomas J. Sweatman her minor grandchild shall have arrived at the age of majority. Thus done and passed this 6th day of October 1854 in presence of Charles A. Bullard and Stephen McLean lawful and competent witnesses.
