Eva Albritton of Campti, Natchitoches Parish, LA, dated March 21, 1932: Following is the best of my transcription: "Sat. Night, "Dear, dear Miss Eva; "I have just learned of Mr. Robert's death - saw it in Natchitoches Times . . . and I cannot tell you how grieved i am - it hurts me to think i had not seen him in so long. ever since Christmas, Sister and i have been planning to go down and spend the day with you; but Black Lake has been over our road ever so long - months - and i haven't been down that way since. "The saddest thing about being flat broke and having to work all the time is that you lose touch with your friends. I don't suppose I will have a single friend left, except those who stick to me in spite of my apparent neglect. "No matter if you never see me, you know that I love you. I thought so much of Mr. Robert, too -- everybody loved him. He will certainly be missed. "Can't you come up and see us? A little change would do you good. "At last the Lake has gone down, and I am coming to see you the very first minute I can get off. "I have finished two books, but they are not published yet. Now am at work on the third. But the depression is even affecting the publishers, so I don't know how I will come out. "Sister joins me in love and sympathy to you -- also to Robert. "God bless you and keep you. "Carrie D." The envelope is addressed to Mrs. Robert Hart, Sr., Campti, La, and postmarked Chestnut, La., on March 21, 1932. The back reflects her return, Caroline Dorman, Chestnut, La. At the bottom is a note presumably from Aunt Eva, reading: "When Robt Hart, Sr. died."
