Through the files of the Natch. Times October 3, 1999 issue. October 1974 Antique silver and crystal had been polished, yards have been mowed, furniture has been burnished and calico gowns are freshly pressed so everything is ready for the influx of visitors to Natchitoches Parish for the 20th annual Historic Tour of Natchitoches and the Cane River Country. Pictured at the Lemee House ready to greet visitors are Ellen Sutton, Renee Prudhomme and Lala Brittain. Cook of the Week is Mrs. Charles E. Cloutier, Jr., who shares her recipes for pickled tongue, meat pies and hogshead cheese. Her favorite New Year's menu consists of black-eyed peas, fresh pork ham, eye of round roast, cornbread dressing and fresh mustard greens. Bariton Jim Ford and contralto Lillian Basham led the 600 people who attended the performance of the symphony Orchestra on the riverbank in singing "Battle Hymn of the Republic" to close an outstanding performance. Melissa Cagle was chosen Miss Rodeo Natchitoches Princess at the Fair. She is presented the trophy by last year's princess, Tamela Clemmons. Runner-up is Kathy Box. David Stewart, Tommy Brewart and Billy Gibson, III recently received awards of merit from Rick Hudson, president of the Natchitoches Area Jaycees. Dr. Tommy G. Johnson of NSU was guest speaker at a meeting of the Pelican Chapter, National Secretaries Association of Shreveport. Things have sure changed in the last three weeks since LSU fans called this "The Year of the Tiger." After the Aggies kicked them around in Tiger Stadium and Rice tied them, Coley Gahagan, Rosie McCoy and Mike Hayes are now putting out signs "Help Mac Pack!"
