Norred, April 2010 No. 3 Jared Cable of the Parish of Natchitoches assignee of Luke McDonald filed his notice claiming 640 acres of land situated in the late Neutral Territory between the Rio Hondo and Sabine Rivers and lying on the Bayou Wallace about five miles above its mouth and about thirty five miles N. West of the Town of Natchitoches. This claim is founded on habitation and cultivation by Luke McDaniel and acquired by the claimant by sundry misnic (sic) conveyances from the said Luke McDonald. The evidence of John Armstrong taken the 30th of Nov. 1835 states “that he knew well Luke McDonald, that he cultivated and resided on a piece of public land situated on the Bayou Wallace about four or five miles from its mouth being in the Rio Hondo or Neutral District, and about thirty five miles from the Town of Natchitoches. “ The deponent further states “that the aforesaid Luke McDonald was settled on the aforesaid place in the year 1815 or 16 and continued to inhabit and cultivate about two or more acres by growing corn and actually resided on said place as his only place of residence on and previous to the twenty second day of February 1819, that his improvements on said pla[ce] [missing word] of his field enclosed by a small dwelling house”, the claimant, in his notice, refers to the petition of the said Luke McDonald to congress on the subject of his claim dated 10th Aug. 1834 wherein he states that “he has occupied and cultivated the tract petitioned for thru years, on and previous to the 22nd of Feb’y 1819 and that he is between sixty one and sixty two years of age” the affidavits of O’Riley Cotton, Joseph John Bapteste Prudhomme and Christopher Hoffser accompany this petition, all of them state destinclty (sic) that the matin[cut from page] facts connects with the settlement of McDonald as mentioned in his petition are true. We are of opinion that this claim ought to be confirmed.
