Norred, April 2010 No. 1 John McLaughlin claims a tract of 640 acres of land situated in the later Neutral Territory between the Rio Hondo and Sabine Rivers and lying on the right bank of Red River descending, below and contiguous to Pascagoula Bayou, about sixty five miles by land above the Town of Natchitoches. This claim is founded on habitation and cultivation by the claimant on and previous to the 22nd of February 1819. The claimant alleges under oath, in his notice that he possessed, occupies, and cultivates this tract claimed on and previous to that date and that he has made valuable improvements thereon the loss of which would cause great embarrassment to him. The evidence of Pierre Boulins taken the 14th of January 1834 before the Hon. C.E. Greneaux, Parish Judge of Natchitoches: states “that he has for a long time been well acquainted with Mr. John McLaughlin, and that the said John did of affiants own knowledge on and previous to the twenty second day of February 1819 inhabit, occupy and cultivate a tract of land situated and lying on the West bank of Red River below and contiguous to Pascagoula Bayou, that the improvements on said Section are valuable and of a permanent character”. Charles Myers also sworn in this claim before the same authority the 6th of Feb’y 1824, states that the facts and allegations set forth in the claimants notice are true and that he has known the claimant for more than eighteen years. We are therefore of opinion that this claim ought to be confirmed.
