Stroud Book B, p. 260 John Baldwin, Parish Recorder and Notary Public, Ex Officio Filed and recorded 14 Dec 1839 Stroud to Davidson The State of Louisiana Parish of Sabine Before me John Baldwin, Parish Recorder and Ex Officio Notary public and and for Sabine Parish in the state of Louisiana duly commissioned and qualified as such personally came and appeared H.P Stroud a resident of Sabine Parish Lousiana who declared that he is really and justly indebted to Edward C. Davidson of the said Parish in the sum of Seven Hundred and Twenty-Two dollars and sixty-five cents as appears by a promisory note he has this day executed in favour of said Davidson in the words and figures following, $722.65 Many Louisiana December 14 1959 One day after date, I promise to pay to the order of E..C. Davidson Seven Hundred and Twenty-Two and 65/100 dollars for value received of him to draw eight percent per annum, interest from the above date until paid. H.P Stroud And now in order to secure to said Davidson the certain payment of the above described note and amount the said Stroud declares that by these present he specially morgages and hypothecates to the said Davidson here present and accepting the following described Three Hundred and Twenty-three acres of land situated in Sabine Parish Louisiana, namely the Northwest quarter and Northwest quarter of Northeast quarter of Section Nine and the South half, of Southwest quarter and Southwest quarter of the Southeast quarter of section four, all of said lands being in Tounship Number 4, Range Number 11 as now fully appears by certificate of Entry issued from the United States Land Office at Natchitoches Number 16022 dated December 12th, 1859, to which reference is here made the land embodied in said certificat being the same that is herein mortgaged. The said Stroud hereby delaring that said lands are mortgaged to said Davidson free from all debts, troubles and mortgages and is to remain so mortgaged until said note is fully paid. This done and payed as aforesaid before me as aforesaid in the presence of Alanson Barr Jr. and James F. Smith two lawful witnesses domiciliated in Sabine Parish, Louisiana who sign this as witness to this act, the said Davidson, Stroud and said witnesses agreeing to all the foregoing and all one and signed on the 14th day of December, A.D. 1859. Stroud The State of Louisiana, Parish of Sabine Before me John Baldwin Parish Recorder and notary public ex officio in and for the Parish and State aforesaid duly commisioned and swron personally came and appeared Mary L Carter--widow of William Cook late of the sid Parish desd. who declared for the consideration hereinafter, expected she does to these present, grant, bargain, sell trnsfer, assign and set over with a full guarantee against all debts troubles, mortgages, claims, evictions donations alienations or encumbrances whatoever unto William H. Stroud a resident of said Parish here present and accepting for he and his heirs and assigns the following described tract of land, To wit: the W 1/2 SW 1/4 Sec. 10, W 1/2 NW 1/4 Sect. fifteen all in township five, range twelve containing one hundred and sixty acres and 76/100 of an acre. The consideration for which this sale and transfer is made is the price and sum of four hundred dollars cash in hand paid the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged the vendor hereby declares this ale to be a full subnegation of all rights and actions touching said land and the purchasor hereby declares he herby dispenses with the production of any certificate of mortgage and from the recorder of mortgage of the Parish of Sabine and elsewhere. This done and payed in my office in the presence of the undersigned witness fully competent and residing in Sabine Parish with the Parties and me the recorder and notary public sihn these present on this 2 day of August A.D., 1860.
