Coutee, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edmond Coutee of Route 1, Cloutierville, has been awarded the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal while serving aboard the attack aircraft carrier USS Ticonderoga, a unit of the Seventh Fleet in the Far East. The awards were presented to the crewmembers for outstanding performance of duty during the Gulf of Tonkin incident in August of 1964. Air squadrons from the Ticonderoga participated int eh successful air strike counter attack operations against the torpedo boats after they had attacked American destroyers on patrol.
