Father William Carey officiated and interment followed in St. John's Cemetery under the direction of Warren Meadows Funeral Home. Pallbearers were her six grandsons and Paul McCormic. A rosary service was held at the Funeral Chapel Sunday night, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. Mrs. Basco died Sunday, Feb. 15 at Sabine Medical Center. She was 83. Survivors include three sons, John R. Basco of Harvey, Tom Basco of Belle Chasse and J.D. Basco Sr. of Many; one daughter, Stephanie Basco Barnhill of Many; six grandsons, Joey Basco Jr. of Chopin, Brett Basco of Benton, Dr. Bill Basco of Charleston, S.C., John Basco Jr. of Harvey, Dr. Byron Basco of Gretna and Ben Barnhill of Many; four granddaughters, Theresa Husband of Marrero, Tracey Lintzen of Mansfield, Julie Basco of Bridge City and Am McMillian of Negreet; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Basco; a daughter, Willa Theresa Basco; a sister, Willa Mae Thompson; a granddaughter, Linda Maria Basco; and a great-granddaughter, Ashton McMillian. Mrs. Basco taught school in Natchitoches, Vernon and Sabine parishes and was a Home Demonstration Agent for the Extension Office of Sabine Parish for many years. She was also a member of the Many Book Club. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Eula Newman Basco Scholarship Fund, 137 Clausen Road, Belle Chasse, La. 70037.
