Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Natchitoches under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home or Ruston. Miss Johnson died Sunday, June 6, 1999 in Ruston after a lengthy illness. Miss Johnson was a member of First Baptist Church of Ruston. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. J. M. Johnson. Survivors include several aunts and cousins. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home. JUNE 9, 1999 PAUL BROSSETT, SR. Paul Brossett, Sr., 83, a resident of Muskogee, Okla., for 44 years, passed away June 5, 1999 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Muskogee. He was born March 26, 1916 in Derry and received his education in Cloutierville. He served his country with pride during WWII. Mr. Brossett was preceded in death by his parents, John and Josephine Brossett; one sister, Mary Brossett of Shreveport; one brother, Levy Brossett of Shreveport; one infant son; and one granddaughter, Marsha Brossett of Muskogee. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lorene LaCaze Brossett; four sons, Paul Brossett, Jr. of Tahlequah, Okla., Robert Brossett and wife, Carol, of Muskogee; nine grandchildren, Carmelia Brossett, Melissa Tarwater, Felicia Gail Brossett, Amanda DeLong, Mark Brossett, Mike Brossett, Lisa Strauss, Rob Brossett and Beth Fields; 11 great grandchildren, Lexi Tarwater, Jacqueline Brossett, Jilian Brossett, Robert Brossett, Klain Brossett, Jill Pilkington, Brandi Brossett, Stephanie Brossett, Brandley Strauss, Coulter Strauss and Alexis Brossett; brothers Lema Brossett of Shreveport and Clifford Brossett of Desoto, Texas; sisters, Zelma Kile, Eunice Cowan and Maggie Nelson, all of Shreveport; and a host of nieces and nephews. FRANK JABBIA Funeral services for Frank Jabbia, 80, of Powhatan were held Tuesday, June 8 at 10 a.m. in the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Powhatan with the Rev. Michael Manase officiating. Burial followed in the Memory Lawn Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home. Mr. Jabbia died at 3:05 p.m. Sunday at his residence. He was a native and life-long resident of Powhatan He was a retired welding instructor for the Natchitoches Vo-Tech Institute and a security guard for the Sunbeam Appliance Co. in Coushatta. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Mamie Leone Jabbia of Powhatan; one son, Peter J. Jabbia and wife Suzanna Jabbia of Slidell; one daughter, Josephine Summers and husband, David Summers, of Powhatan; two sisters, Rosa Leone and Corrine Digilormo, both of Powhatan; three brothers, Joe Jabbia of Abbeville, Tony Jabbia of Monroe and John Jabbia of Denham Springs; two grandchildren, Frank J. Davis, Jr., 68, of Campti will be held Thursday, June 10 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches with the Rev. Dan Chance officiating. Lt. Col. Davis died Sunday, June 6, 1999 at Natchitoches Parish Hospital. He was a native of Roanoke, Va., and a resident of Campti. He was a member of the 1952 national championship team for the Georgia Tech football team. He graduated in 1954. He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force, served in Vietnam in 1970 and continued to serve for 26 years. He retired as a lieutenant colonel in 1979. He was a member of American Legion Post #401. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Hurt Davis of Campti; one son, David H. Davis, III of Ft. Worth, Texas; two daughters, Dawn Davis Cathey of Derby, Kan., and Holly Davis Young of Tucson, Ariz., and one sister Marilyn Davis Warren of Pacifica, Calif. Burial will follow in Memory Lawn Cemetery under the direction of Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home. Mrs. Cobb, 59, died Wednesday, June 9, 1999 at Willis Knighton Medical Center in Shreveport. She was a member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception where she served 12 years as a director of religious education. She worked as an LPN at Natchitoches Parish Hospital for two years. She was office manager at Artcrete Inc. Her survivors include her husband, Wade H. Cobb of Natchez; two sons, W. Paul Cobb of Baton Rouge and David D. Cobb of Houston; and one daughter, Deborah E. Cobb of Houston. ETES GLEN EARLY Funeral services for Etes Glen Early, 68, of Belmont were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 13 at Union Baptist Church. Burial was under the direction of Warren Meadows Funeral Home in Many. Mr. Early died Saturday, June 12, 1999 in Belmont. DR. ARLENE AIRHART Dr. Arlene Airhart, a professor of nursing at Northwestern State University died Sunday at her home in Shreveport. She was 50. A Northwestern graduate, Airhart was a member of NSU's faculty for 27 years. She was named director of nursing education in 1986 before being named director of the Division of Nursing three years later. Airhart stepped down as director in 1996 to return to full-time teaching. While Airhart was director, the Division of Nursing increased its enrollment by 300 percent. During her tenure, approximately 30 percent of the students at the University were nursing majors. She was instrumental in obtaining a major grant to establish Family Nurse Practitioner Program. Airhart also played a leading role in obtaining a grant of just under $500,000 from the Rural Electrification Administration to establish a distance learning program. After earning her bachelor's at Northwester, Airhart received a master's degree in nursing at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and the Ph.D. in nursing from Texas Women's University. She was nationally recognized expert in geriatrics and regularly served as a consultant to hospitals and health care organizations around the country. RILLA DOROTHY SPARKS BROCK Funeral services for Rilla Dorothy Brock, 83, of Pineville were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 13 in the chapel of John Kramer & Son with the Rev. Jim Spencer officiating. Interment was in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Pineville. Ms. Brock died Friday, June 11, 1999 in The Oaks Care Center. She was a native of Natchitoches Parish and a long-time resident of Pineville. She was a member of the Kingsville Baptist Church. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Venita Sue Brock Baker and Mrs. Janice Brock Mount, both of Pineville; one brother, D. M. Sparks of Natchitoches; four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Association for the Preservation of Historic Natchitoches and Catholic Daughters of America. Survivors include her husband, John Jabbia, Sr., of Natchitoches; one son, John Jabbia, Jr. of Denham Springs; and two grandchildren. She was born in Flora to the late William Edward and Eugenia Vercher Page. Prior to retirement Mrs. Terry was a supervisor for Bell South. Her husband, Harvey J. Terry, preceded her in death. Mr. Swindle was a resident of Natchitoches and a native of Marthaville. He was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church near Marthaville. He was the retired owner and operator of Swindle Glass Service of Natchitoches. Mrs. Lambre, 85, of Natchitoches, died at 12:26 p.m. Tuesday, June 22, 1999 at Natchitoches Parish Hospital. Mrs. Lambre was a resident of Natchitoches and was a native of Colfax. She was a member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Natchitoches. She was a past member of the Natchitoches Service League, a member of the Retired Teachers Association and was a member of the State Hospital Board of Louisiana in the early 1960s. Survivors include one son, James Alton Lambre of Bossier City; one daughter, Anne Duncan Lambre of Natchitoches; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. BRENDA KAY WELKER A memorial service for Brenda Kay Welker, 44, was held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 25 at South Tulsa Baptist Church in Oklahoma. Mrs. Welker, beloved wife and mother, passed away Wednesday, June 23, 1999 at her home from a brain tumor. She was surrounded by her family and many friends. She was born in Biloxi, Miss., to Melvin and Katherine Winegarten on Oct. 16, 1954. She is preceded in death by her brother, Larry Winegarten. She is survived by her husband, Jack, of the home; daughters, Tiffany Bresee of El Reno, Okla., and Amber Welker of Broken Arrow, Okla.; parents Mel and Katherine Winegarten of Bixby, Okla.; brother, Kenny Winegarten of Bixby; sister, Debi Johnson of Orlando, Fla.; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, aunts and uncles.
