PENDER Services for Laura B. Pender, 89, of Shreveport will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 30, 2001 in the chapel of Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches with the Revs. John Hart and James Smith officiating. Burial will be in Memory Lawn Cemetery. Mrs. Pender died Thursday, June 28, 2001, in the Glen Retirement Village in Shreveport. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank H. Pender. Survivors include one son, Robert H. Pender, and his wife, Maxine, of Bernice; one daughter, Frances Raley, and her husband, Earl, of Shreveport; four grandchildren, Earl Raley Jr., Jeff Raley, Diane Pittman and Laura Payne; and five great-grandchildren, Brett Pittman, Zach Raley, Cody Raley, Colton Raley and Tyler Payne. Pallbearers will be Brett Pittman, Earl Raley Jr., Jeff Raley, Cody Raley, Zach Raley, Gary Pittman, Cody Payne and Bill Weaver. Visitation will be Saturday, June 30 from noon to service time at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. CHARLOTTE E. SOMPAYRAC Charlotte E. Sompayrac, 83, of Boulder, Colo., passed away May 22, 2001, of natural causes. Funeral services were held Saturday, May 26 at 10 a.m. in Green Mt. Cemetery in Boulder. Interment was in Green Mt. Cemetery under the direction of Howe Mortuary. Mrs. Sompayrac was born February 27, 1918, in Cicero, Ill., to Joseph A. Becker and Helen Ross Becker. She married William T. Sompayrac August 12, 1936, in Chicago, Ill., and went to Boulder, Colo., in 1956 from Warrenville, Ill. She was a homemaker and enjoyed reading and her family. Survivors include her husband, William T. Sompayrac of Boulder; a daughter, Judith H. Wiskur of Aurora, Ill.; sons William B. Sompayrac of Henderson, Nev., and Russell A. Sompayrac of Boulder; sisters Marie Driskell of Longmont, Colo., Bernice Mundell of Lake Forrest, Calif., and Dolores Ilko of Boulder,; brother Joseph W. Becker of Pine Grove, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Edmund Becker. June 28, 2001 issue SISTER PHELOSEE CYIARK As for me, the hour has come for me to be sacrificed; the time is here for me to leave this life. I have done my best in the race, I have run the full distance and I have kept the faith. II Timothy 4:6-7-TEV If you met her, you would have loved her for she was a woman full of good works. This Christian woman was quiet and caring-good to her family and to all who knew her. She has been a mother to those who had no mother-provided a home to those who had no home-gave words of encouragement to those who were discouraged and lived a life that was a good example to those who were around here. This lady was the fourth child born to Gus and Margarett Cyiark that they named Phelosee, born November 9, 1908. She was one of eight children born to this union, all preceded her in death. At an early age, Sis. Cyiark confessed Christ and served many years as deaconess and youth director in the St. Andrew Missionary Baptist Church and the 12th district Association on the local and district levels. Sis. Phelosee Cyiark was married to Mr. Nathan Williams and to this union three children were born- Pearline, Johnnie (deceased) and Joe Louis. She reared her children to love God, family and their fellow man and they never forget those lessons. Sis. Cyiark had a good, long life and on Friday, June 22, 2001 at approximately 3:30 p.m., god quietly and peacefully called her to rest from labor to reward. She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Pearline W. Baptiste (husband Hebert Sr.); one son, Joe Louis Williams (wife Roberta); three grandsons, Nathan Williams, Herbert Baptiste Jr. and LeRon Baptiste; two granddaughters, Kendra Williams and Wilma Jean Randle; three step-grandchildren, Eric, Marcel and Douglas; three great grandchildren, Herbert JeRod, Cathlyn Alana and Corrine Alyssa Baptiste; many nieces, nephews other relatives, neighbors and friends. Visitation will be held Friday, June 29 from 6-8 p.m. in the chapel of Winnfield Funeral Home in Natchitoches. Services will be held Saturday, June 30 at 10 a.m. in St. Andrew Baptist Church in Derry. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. June 27, 2001 issue ANNIE MAE BROWN A wake will be held for Annie Mae Brown from 6-10 p.m. Friday, June 29, 2001, at Agape Love Center, 1515 Texas St., and funeral services will be held in the Winnfield Funeral Home chapel at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 30, 2001. Ms. Brown was born May 3, 1940, and died Thursday, June 21, 2001. FLOYD "PETE" RACHAL JR. Funeral services for Floyd "Pete" Rachal Jr., 48, of Cane River will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 29, 2001 in St. Augustine Catholic Church at Melrose with Frs. Victor Vead and Marc Noel officiating. Burial will be in St. Augustine Catholic Cemetery at Melrose under the direction of Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home. Mr. Rachal died Monday, June 25, 2001 in his residence at Cane River. He was a native and lifelong resident of Cane River. He was a diesel mechanic for Chevron Offshore Oil and Gas, was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society at Melrose. Survivors include two sons, Nacoma Rachal and Eckema Rachal, both of Houston, Texas; his parents, Floyd and Lena Rachal Sr. of Cane River; two sisters, Laney LaCour of Cloutierville and Alma Dupree of Derry. Pallbearers will be James E. Gallien, Gerald LaCour, Kenneth Rachal, Sidney Moran Jr., Silton Metoyer Jr., Leslie Balthazar and Jodie LaCour. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 28, 2001 from 5-9 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. June 19, 2001 issue JOHN LEVY FREDERICK February 18, 1934-June 15, 2001 John Levy Frederick of Natchitoches died June 15, 2001, at the age of 67 years. He was the beloved husband of Jan Frederick, father to Luke and Sydney, father-in-law to Lori and loving Papa to Jonathan. A sister, Madeline Matthews, also survives him. With the deepest sense of loss, his devoted family announces the passing of their patriarch. For his 67 years he lived life to the fullest with unconditional love for his family, commitment to his business, Kaffie-Frederick Inc., and his passion for all that is just and decent in the world. Devotion to his Catholic faith was ever present. After graduating from Northwestern State College, he entered the Army and served in the Korean War. In 1957, he began his career at Kaffie-Frederick, Inc. and was the present owner. He shared his abilities and talents with all he met and those who needed his expert help. Even in death, John Levy Frederick has cared for others by generously donating his body to medical education and research to help others as he has always done. A Memorial Mass was held Sunday, June 17, 2001 at 3 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Church. BETTY MOORE Funeral services for Betty Moore, 69, of Natchitoches were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2001 in the chapel of Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches. The Revs. Clovis Sturdivant and Mike Honzell officiated. Burial was in McCaskill Cemetery at Marthaville. Mrs. Moore died Saturday, June 16, 2001, in the Satellite Rehabilitation Center in Natchitoches. Mrs. Moore was a native and lifelong resident of Natchitoches. She was retired from Bank One. She was a member of Westside Baptist Church and a member of Order of Eastern Star Chapter 13. Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Moore, and her parents, Cliff and Augie Darnell Miller. Survivors include one daughter, Cindy Pardue, her husband, Darryll, and their children, Cody and Casey Pardue; and her mother-in-law, Lillie Moore Rains, all of Natchitoches; sister-in-law, Margie McCrory, and her husband, T. J.; niece, Kay Davis; and nephew Ted McCrory, all of Shreveport; and two aunts, Billie James of Natchitoches and Des Cash of Clayton, Ala. Pallbearers were Cody Pardue, Ted McCrory, Blake Levasseur, Greg Davis, Eugene Easley, Mark Wilkerson, Mike Breedlove and Andy Perot. JAMES WOODROW PRUDHOMME Funeral services for James Woodrow Prudhomme, 88, of Natchez were held Sunday, June 17, 2001 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches with the Rev. Dan O'Connor officiating. Burial was in Catholic Cemetery in Natchitoches. Mr. Prudhomme died Friday, June 15, 2001, in Natchitoches Parish Hospital. Mr. Prudhomme was a native of Bermuda. He was the former city commissioner of public utilities for Natchitoches and the retired owner of Autolec Store. he was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Mr. Prudhomme is survived by one son, James Larry Prudhomme of Natchitoches; one daughter, Kathryn Diane Parker of Boyce, Texas; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Brody Parker, James Prudhomme II, Milton McDonald, Ralph Conant, Ronny Perry and Charles Prudhomme. June 15, 2001 issue ANNIE LEE PULLIN Graveside services for Annie Lee Pullin, 99, of Natchitoches will be held Friday, June 15, 2001 at 11 a.m. in Memory Lawn Cemetery with the Rev. Stanley Clemons officiating under the direction of Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home of Natchitoches. Mrs. Pullin passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2001, in the Natchitoches Parish Long Term Care Unit. Mrs. Pullin was born in 1902 to Carrie Lee Griffin Taylor and John Jacob Taylor. She attended Louisiana State University and returned to Natchitoches, where she attended Normal State College. There, she received her teaching degree and taught in the Natchitoches Parish school system for some 25 years. After retiring from public school teaching, she taught the first adult education class at the Natchitoches trade school. At the age of 65, Mrs. Pullin went back to college to receive her certification to teach kindergarten. She later organized and taught the first kindergarten class at Pineville Park Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elgie J. Pullin; three brothers, Leary, Griffin and Ernest Taylor; and one grandson, Mark Murphy. She is survived by her daughter, Nelda Ann "Jo" Pullin Murphy; three grandchildren, Mike, Marti and Tim Murphy; five great-grandchildren, Timi Murphy-Ryals, Will and Dakota Ryals, and Claire and Michael Murphy; two nieces, Gwendolyn Taylor Stacy and Carrie Lou Taylor; and three nephews, John, Ernest and Griffin Taylor Jr. Teaching was her vocation, and she was able to tutor her great-grandchildren. Above all, she was a teacher, and she leaves many students whose lives she touched. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Baptist Children's Home of Monroe. Interment was in Hickory Grove Cemetery in Vowells Mill. Mrs. Holland passed away Saturday, June 2, 2001 in Natchitoches Parish Hospital. She is survived by her husband, Ronald Holland of Provencal; her parents, Carl and Cora Lee Creighton of Many; son Kelby Savell and his wife, Lori, of Provencal; daughter Becky Anderson of Zwolle; son-in-law Prentice Anderson of Zwolle; four sisters, Fay McLendon, Sue Meshell, Marie Rivers and Kathy Crittenden, all of Many; two brothers, Doug Creighton and Brian Creighton, both of Many; two grandchildren, Ashlee Anderson and Kaleb Anderson, both of Zwolle. Mrs. Holland was a native of Zwolle and a resident of Provencal. She attended Holy Cross Catholic Church in Natchitoches. HAROLD DAN MATTHEWS Funeral services for Harold Dan Matthews, 63, of Natchitoches were held Tuesday, June 5, 2001 at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home with the Revs. Jim Armstrong and Wayne Morrow officiating. Interment was in Friendship Cemetery in Many. Mr. Matthews passed away Saturday, June 2, 2001 in Natchitoches Parish Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Ann Matthews, of Natchitoches; two sons, Harold Keith Matthews and wife, Denise, of Ruston and Craig Stephen Moran and wife, Camille, of Natchitoches; two daughters, Lisa Annette Matthews Rogers and husband, Sam, of Shreveport and Kathleen Lanell Moran Deloney and husband, Mark, of Natchitoches; his father, James Rufus Matthews, of Many; one brother, Billy Matthews, and wife, Bonnie, of Natchitoches; two sisters, Peggy Rivers of Many and Mary Jane Larpenter and husband, Jerry, of Many; and eight grandchildren, Tyler, Chase, Victoria, Caroline, Hailey, Hillary, Holly and Hannah. He is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Melvina Stewart Matthews and a brother, Bobby Matthews. Mr. Matthews was a native of Robeline and a resident of Natchitoches. He graduated from Many High School and retired from Tom's Food in 1994. Pallbearers were Jim Matthews, Gene McDavid, Norman Stewart, Jace Matthews, Jerry Larpenter, Mark Matthews and Tommy Roark. HOWARD D. HALEY Funeral services for Howard D. Haley, 80, of Provencal were held Monday, June 4, 2001 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Blanchard-St. Denis funeral Home. Interment was in Provencal Cemetery. Mr. Haley passed away Friday, June 1, 2001 in Natchitoches Parish Hospital. Mr. Haley is survived by his wife, Mamie Haley of Provencal; one son, Michael Stanley Haley, and his wife, Sheila, of Robeline; one daughter, Virginia Nell Sisson and husband, Lane, of Shreveport; three sisters, Ona Mae Lindsey and Esther Hailey, both of Provencal and Melba Free of Natchitoches; three brothers, Hursel Haley of Provencal, Basil Haley of Lake Charles and Lyndel Haley of Pasadena, Texas; six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. Mr. Haley was a resident of Provencal. He was an Army veteran of World War II, was a retired employee of Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries and was a member of the Pentecostal Church of Provencal. Pallbearers were Ben Lindsey, Randy Yopp, Red Scarborough, Danny Haley, Steven Orsborn and Delbert Broadway.
