Mrs. Racine died Tuesday, September 28, 1999. She was a native of Winn Parish. Mr. Ackel died Tuesday, October 5, 1999 at Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Alexandria. He was a native and life-long resident of Natchitoches. He was a veteran of World War II in the U. S. Army serving in the 802nd tank destroyer battalion. He served on the Natchitoches Parish Police Jury for 24 years and as Jury president for several terms. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Rotary Club, Elks Club, Natchitoches Area Action Association, charter member of the Agitators Club and a member of the Coordinating Development Council of Northwest Louisiana and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He had served on the board of directors for First Federal Savings and Loan. He was the retired owner of Ackel Brothers Shopping Center and a local businessman for over 50 years. He was preceded in death by his brother, William A. Ackel. Survivors include his wife, Melba Masson Ackel of Natchitoches; two sons, John E. Ackel and Phillip A. Ackel; two daughters, Rebecca Lavespere and Martha A. Kyzar; two sisters, Margaret Ackel Adkins and Shirley Ackel Scott; and seven grandchildren, all of Natchitoches. October 7, 1999 issue. SGT. MAJOR JOSEPH POISSO Funeral services for Sgt. Major Joseph Poisso, 93, of Dry Prong were held Thursday, October 7 at 2 p.m. in Hebron Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard DeBusk officiating. Burial followed in Iatt Cemetery under the direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home in Alexandria. Mr. Poisso died Monday, October 4, 1999 in the VA Medical Center. He was a member of Hebron Baptist Church, a past member of American Legion and an active member of the VFW. Sgt. Major Poisso was active duty military for 30 years during which he was General Patton's personal body guard. He received the silver star and purple heart with oak leaf cluster. He was also in the active reserve for over 10 years. Survivors include his wife, Lorie W. Poisso of Dry Prong; three sons, Michael P. Poisso of Dry Prong, Joseph R. Poisso of Washington, D. Survivors include one son, Steve Long of Winnfield; one daughter, Stephanie Long of Alexandria; her mother, Doris W. Nugent of Winnfield; and one brother Ben Nugent of Chestnut. JAMES GLENN BLEVINS Services for James Glenn Blevins, 81, of Natchitoches were held at 11 a.m. Monday, October 11 at First United Methodist Church in Natchitoches. The Rev. James Poole and Rev. Doug Cain officiated. Graveside services followed at noon at Fellowship Methodist Church Cemetery in Hineston under the direction of Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home. Mr. Blevins died Friday, October 8, 1999, at Highland Hospital in Shreveport. He was born May 22, 1918, in Glenmora and was retired form the U. S. State Department and the U. S. Geological Survey. During his working career, he served in Ecuador, Brazil, Yemen, Pakistan, Iran, Laos, Nepal and California. His memberships included the Natchitoches Lion's Club, First United Methodist Church, Porter Bible class and the NARFE. Mr. Blevins was preceded in death by his son, James Glenn Blevins, Jr., a brother, Luther Paul Blevins, and a sister, Opal Blevins. Miss Thibodeaux died in Lafayette General Hospital on September 27, 1999 following a lengthy illness. She was a native of Natchitoches Parish, a former resident of Flora and a resident of Lafayette since 1956. She was the daughter of Andrew J. Thibodeaux and the former Willie Bobo. Mr. Cloutier was a lifelong resident of Natchitoches. He was a graduate of Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He was a farmer in Natchitoches for 32 years and was a sales representative for Ouachita Fertilizer Co. for 35 years. Mr. Cloutier was a member of the ASCS board, member of the Valley Electric board of directors, Peoples Bank and Trust Co board of directors, Louisiana Cotton Producers, president of the Louisiana Cattleman's Association, member of the Historic District Commission and a first lieutenant in the U. S. Air Force. Survivors include his wife, Susan Oxner Cloutier; two daughters, Melissa M. Cloutier and Martha Cloutier Evans and her husband, Joe Evans, Margaret Cloutier Shaw and her husband Barry; on brother, Gerald W. Cloutier; and a host of nieces and nephews. Mr. Powell, 81, died on Sunday, October 10, 1999 at Natchitoches Parish Hospital. Mr. Powell was a native of Winn Parish. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict with the U. S. Navy and was a military liaison for the Navy after World War II, serving for 21 years, attaining the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Natchitoches, Knights of Columbus Council #1357 4th degree knight, past faithful navigator and past grand knight for the council; member of Louisiana Pecan Growers Association and awarded Man of the Year and named to the Pecan Growers Hall of Fame in 1998. He was given the City of Natchitoches Patriotic Award. Army for 20 years and was retired from Raytheon Missile Systems after 17 years of service. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart, bronze service stars, combat infantry badge, army occupation medals for Germany and Japan, the Korean service medal and Army commendation medal, among others. In his position with Raytheon Missile Systems he was in operations in Saudi Arabia and El Paso, Texas. He also worked with the Kuwait Air Force prior to Desert Storm. He was a member of the American Legion. R. DUFFY WALL R. Duffy Wall, 57, of Hurlock, Md., died Monday, October 25, 1999 at 6:05 a.m. at Different Drummer Farm. He was born at Winnfield October 24, 1942. The funeral service will be limited to his immediate family under the direction of Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge, Md. Mr. Wall graduated from LaSalle High School in Olla and from Northwestern State University with a degree in journalism. He has had a home near Hurlock since 1985. In 1981 he started R. Duffy Wall & Associates which is a government relations consulting firm in Washington, D. C. He was a highly respected lobbyist in Washington for many years. Duffy will be remembered for his integrity, generosity, his strength of character, his unique take on life and love for his family, friends and the outdoors. He was a life member of the Safari Club International and the Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation. Survivors include his wife, Sharon Borg Wall, whom he married on August 16, 1986; one daughter, Catherine Wall Montgomery and her husband Mark Montgomery of Santa Barbara, Calif.; one son, Howard Wall; three grandchildren, Kate Montgomery, Caroline Montgomery and T. "Bill" Clarry, Jr., 81, of Natchitoches were held Saturday, October 30 at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home with the Revs. Doug Cain and James Poole officiating. Burial followed in Memory Lawn Cemetery. Mr. Clarry died Thursday, October 28, 1999 at Natchitoches Parish Hospital. He was a native of Cincinnati, Ohio. He earned his BA degree from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U. S. Marine Corps as a staff sergeant. He was an insurance adjuster in Beaumont, Texas and a merchant of a toy and hobby shop in Lafayette. Survivors include his wife, Adele R. Clarry of Natchitoches; one son, Thomas Nolan Clarry of Huntsville, Ala.; two daughters, June Craft and husband, Ron, of Dallas, Texas and Susan Norman and husband, Charles "Randy" of Natchitoches; three grandchildren, Jennifer Norman, Amanda Craft and Andrew Craft.
