MR. JAMES R. SHELTON, JR. Funeral services for Mr. James R. Shelton, Jr., 68, of Montgomery were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1 in the Nantachie Pentecostal Church with the Rev. Nathaniel Young officiating. Burial will follow in the Shelton Cemetery at Montgomery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home in Winnfield. Mr. Shelton died at his residence Monday, Aug. 30, 1999. He was a building contractor and a member of the Nantachie Pentecostal Church. Survivors include his wife, Margia Thomisee Shelton of Montgomery; three sons, David Chelette of Spencer and James R. Shelton, III and Arthur Shelton, both of Montgomery; two daughters, Aleshia Chelette of Montgomery and Zan Desadier of Campti; five brothers, Gerald Shelton and C. W. He was a native and lifelong resident of Natchitoches, a student at the Ninth Grade Center, was active in school activities, enjoyed sports, fishing and drama and was a member of First United Methodist Church. Survivors include his parents, Bobby and Lynn Pierson of Natchitoches; sister Sherri Pierson; brother, Brian Pierson; paternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Joe H. Pierson, Sr., all of Natchitoches; and maternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. John E. Alost, Jr. of Hammond. He was a World War II veteran who served his country with pride and dignity. He was separated from the military services by way of honorable discharge February 4, 1946 at Camp Fannin, Texas. He was a native of Provencal, a retired school bus operator for Natchitoches Parish Schools with 32 years of meritorious service. Services for Cary Johnson, Jr., 73, of Natchitoches will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 24 at First United Methodist Church in Natchitoches with the Rev. Doug Cain officiating. Burial will follow in the American Cemetery under the direction of Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home. Mr. Johnson died Tuesday, September 21 at his residence following a lengthy illness. A native of Memphis, Tenn., he was preceded in death by his parents, Cary Johnson, Sr. and Mary Durham Johnson. He was a graduate of Northwestern State University and a veteran of the U. S. Navy and Louisiana National Guard attaining rank of Sgt.-Major. His career in probation and parole spanned from 1952-1980. He supervised the Natchitoches Office of Juvenile Probation and Parole beginning in 1957 and later supervised the Shreveport office as regional supervisor. He was assistant division director in the central office of the Division of Youth Services a year prior to retirement. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church and served on many of its boards. He was a board member of the American Cemetery and Sons of the Confederacy and served on the City Planning Commission. He was an avid historian. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jane White Johnson; a son, Cary Douglas Johnson of Austin, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Mark Osborn of Dunellen, N. THELMA JOHNSTON PURDY Funeral services for Thelma Johnston Purdy, 80, of Springtown, Texas were held Friday, September 24 at 9:30 a.m. at Greenwood Chapel in Fort Worth, Texas. Burial followed in Simpson Campground in Woden, Texas. She lost her courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, September 22, 1999 in Fort Worth. She was known to everyone as "Mamaw Purdy" and was an inspiration to everyone she met. She will always remain in our hearts. Mr. McNeely, 82, of Natchitoches, died at his residence September 23, 1999. He was a native of Colfax and a U. S. Navy veteran, having served in the World War II Pacific Theater. He was a retired vice president of City Bank and Trust Co., who served 42 years before his retirement in 1982. He was also an active cattle rancher and a member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception, the V. F. W. and the American Legion. Survivors include two sons, Charles L. TROQUILLE Funeral services for Freddie D. Troquille, 66, of Gorum were held Monday, September 27, in the chapel of Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home. Burial followed in Gorum Cemetery. Burial followed in Ajax Cemetery. Mr. Bullock, 90, of Natchitoches died at his residence Sunday, September 26, 1999. He was born August 12, 1909. During his life, he served as principal and superintendent of schools in Natchitoches Parish. He was principal of Cloutierville High School and Natchitoches Jr. High. He was a member of First Baptist Church-Second Street and a Sunday school teacher there. He holds numerous masters degrees. He was a Mason, Shriner and member of the Lion's Club. He was state director for the Louisiana Association Council on Aging. Survivors include his wife, Irma Carolyn Powell Bullock of Natchitoches; two daughters Nelda Allison Powell Coutee of Pineville and Ella Grace Powell Gallagher of Arlington, Texas; three sisters, Sudie Mae Bullock Thompson of Plains, Texas, Marsene Callie Bullock Beattie of Denver City, Texas, and Grace LaRue Bullock Gentry of Natchitoches; four brothers, John Wesley "Buster" Bullock of Wimberly, Texas, Earnest Willard Bullock of Odessa, Texas, Uber Sydney "U.S." Bullock of Brownfield, Texas, and Jerry Dean Bullock of Houston; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Ellis Coutee, John Gallagher, Larry Richter, Ray Sefcik, Jr., Richey Guillory and Raymond Powell. Sorgee, Sr. were held at 3 p.m. Monday, September 27 in the chapel of Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Bonds, officiating. Burial followed in Fern park Cemetery. Sorgee, 84, of Natchitoches died Saturday, September 25, 1999, at his residence. He was a native of Breckenridge, Texas, a resident of Natchitoches and of the Methodist faith. He retired from Cane River Supply as a heavy equipment operator after 34 years of service. Survivors include his wife, Anease B. Sorgee of Natchitoches; three sons, Reynold A. Sorgee of Fort Worth, Texas, and James Roland Sorgee and Roland A. Sorgee, both of Longview, Texas; one sister, Hazel Bonds of DeRidder; one brother, Edgar Sorgee of Port Arthur, Texas; two half-sisters, Esther Fontenot of Baldwin and Lydia Saucier of Henegar, Ala.; one half-brother, Walter A. Sorgee, Jr. of Morgan City; five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
