Ponder 2 Jun 1933 - Death called Silas D. Ponder at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, he having been ill for several months. Funeral services were conducted at the Many Baptist church by the pastor, Rev. J. M. Pate, with interment in Ft. Jesup cemetery Wednesday afternoon. Attorney Ponder was born on a farm six miles east of Robeline, Natchitoches parish, January 15, 1860, being a son of the late William A. Ponder. Boyhood days for Silas D. were spent on the farm; he was educated at the University of the South at Swane, Tenn., and subsequently graduated at law from Tulane University and began the practice of his profession at Natchitoches. On account of a severe attack of fever he removed to Texas, in 1886, where he lived for fifteen years, and while a citizen of that state he filled several important positions of trust among them being prosecuting attorney of Denton county. In 1901 he moved back to the beloved state of his nativity, located at Many, and for several years was associated with his brother, Amos L. Ponder. At the time of his demise he was a partner with his son, William H., of the law firm of Ponder and Ponder. He was a member of the Louisiana Constitutional Conventions of 1913 and again in 1921, was elected mayor of Many without opposition. Deceased was a successful lawyer, a genial gentleman and a good and progressive citizen. For many years Mr. Ponder has been prominent in banking circles, being vice-president of Sabine State Bank & Trust company. Mr. Ponder was married in to Miss Cora Templeman of Shreveport, who preceded him to the grave last year. The following children survive: Wm H. Ponder, Mrs. Cecil Davis, of Many; J.
