Departed this life on the 29th September at the home of his father, on the Terrett plantation, OCTAVE PRUDHOMME, son of Adolphe Prudhomme and Octavie Metoyer, aged 21 years. The sad tidings of the death of our beloved Octave has sunk deep into the hearts of his many and truest friends. But a few days ago he was with us, full of hope; full of life; full of cheerfulness; to day he is gone, he slumbers in the sleep of eternity. Oh! how sad does my heart grow at the idea that poor Octave is no more; but on the other hand, I rejoice to think that in leaving us, he goes to a land far fairer than this, a land where all are free. But in spite of this the sad! sad! thought that he is no more with us holds still its sway. Yet be it as it is, in a few short years, we too, must say the sad good-bye! to go to that land where trouble is never known. Octave, my heart swells high with grief when I think I must quit you, yet the time has drawn near that I must say farewell! "Green be the turf above thee, Friend of my happier days; None knew thee but to love thee, None named thee but to praise." A FRIEND.
