RIDDLE SUCCUMBS AT 80 Special to the Times JONESBORO - Ben Edward Riddle, 80, of Jonesboro died early today in a local hospital after a lengthy illness. Funeral rites will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Jonesboro Methodist Church with Rev. E. L. Tatum officiating. Burial will be in Jonesboro Cemetery under directions of Edmonds Funeral Home. Graveside Masonic rites will be held. Mr. Riddle was a retired farmer and member of Jonesboro Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Jonesboro Lodge. Survivors include his widow, one son, Earl Riddle of Shreveport; three daughters, Mrs. Grace Mathews and LaDell Poindexter of West Monroe and Christine Blackstock of Ruston; one sister, Edna Wooley of Saline; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Additional Comments: Ben Riddle was born to Bennett Smith Riddle and Mary Elizabeth Martin Riddle on October 8, 1884. They moved to Bienville parish where Ben as a young man became a postman who delivered the mail on horseback. He met Bessie Mitchell and they married in 1906. They then moved to Readhiemer in Natchitoches parish before finally settling in Jonesboro in their later years. His son, Robert Vester Riddle preceded him in death in 1953.
