State of Louisiana Parish of Natchitoches Be it remembered that on this Eighteenth day of march in the year one thousand eight hundred and forty eight, In pursuance of an order of the Honorable, the District court of the Parish of Natchitoches and state aforesaid. - Before me Thomas Plumer Jones. Recorder and notary public, duly commissioned and sworn in and for the same, and in presence of the subscribing witnesses: (they being residents and competent to wit as such) was held a family meeting of the relations and friends of Marie Octavia, Joseph Marcelin, Marie Constance Euphrasie, Marie Ursule Lelia and Marie Amelia Tauzin, minor children and heirs of Marie Constance Levasseur late of this Parish, deceased, wife of Marceline Tauzin. - The said family meeting was convoked on the petition of Marcelin Tauzin tutor by nature of the said minors and administrator of the succession of said deceased for the purpose of deliberating and advising generally touching the interest of the said minors and particularly, 1st whether their tutor shall be authorised to accept the succession of their deceased mother under the benefit of an inventory 2nd whether the property of said succession shall be kept together, or disposed of and if disposed of, the manner and terms of the sale of the same - 3rd whether their tutor shall be authorised to ship to new orleans to be disposed of in the usual course of trade the cotton produced on the plantation belonging to said succession in community with their said tutor and 4th whether he shall be authorised to compound, compromise or transact with the debtors of the said succession or any of them for the debts due by them to the succession - The said family meeting was composed of Louis Tauzin, Paternal uncle; Alexander Deblieux first cousin, Leonard Trichel cousin, Cyriaque? Cyriaque? Perot cousin, and Charles E. Cheneaux. Cheneaux? cousin by affinity in default of a relation by consanguinity - all of whom being sworn according to law, proceded to deliberate on the questions for which they were convoked as aforesaid. - and the said members were of opinion and advised - That the succession be accepted for the minors by their tutor under the benefit of Inventory, and that he be authorized by the Judge to that effect - 2nd that for the present the property of said succession shall be kept together in kind by the administrator - that the cultivation of the plantation be continued - that the administrator be authorized to use for this purpose the corn, fodder, provisions, stock, farming utensils, etc. etc now on the plantation to make all engagements proper for continuing said cultivation - They thus counsel and advise being of opinion that by this course the property will be most productive to the minors - 3rd They coulsel and advise that the administrator be authorised to ship the present, or other crops which may be made, to new orleans, there to be disposed of in the usual course of trade, being of opinion that it will sell for a better price there than if disposed of elsewhere or in a different manner, and that it will therefore be to the evident interest of the minors - 4th It appearing from the exhibition of the inventory that a debt amounting to three thousand two hundred dollars is due to the community lately existing between Marcelin Tauzin and his cedeased wife, by sylvester Bossier, which was by the Appraisers supposed to be of no value, and being of opinion that in consequence of the embarrassed affairs of said Bossier, it would be impossible for the administrator to collect any part of said debt under process of law, and beleiving that the administrator may be able to save a part of said debt by compounding or transacting with said Bossier or those representing him, the members of the said family meeting do for these reasons further counsel and advise that it will be for the manifest interest of said minors that the administrator be authorised and empowered to transact compromise or compound for said debt on such terms as may to him seem expedient and that he be authorised to that effect by the court. John Francois Levasseur under tutor being also present, declared that he concurred in the opinion and advise of the said family meeting. - In witness whereof the members of the said family meeting and the said under tutor have signed these presents in presence of the undersigned competent witnesses and me the said Recorder and notary, on this Eighteenth day of march in the year one thousand eight hundred and forty eight - at my office in the Town and Parish of natchitoches. signed/ Louis Tauzin his x mark declaring he could not write his name from the defect of blindness = Alexandre Deblieux = C.
