Biography of Bezon, Dr. Henry Orleans Parish, Louisiana Submitted by Mike Miller September 2000 ********************************************** Copyright. All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Dr. Henry Bezon physician and surgeon, New Orleans, La., is the only son born to the union of Henry Bezon Sr., and Ezilda Blache, natives of Louisiana; he was born in New Orleans, July 23, 1850, and has but one sister, Miss Louise, now living. The Bezon family is of French origin, and the Doctor's grandparents were early settlers of Louisiana (1803). His paternal grandmother, Emilie de Montagnac, belonged to the family of "de Montagnac" of France, who since 1316 has always served France in the army and navy, as ministers and envoys plenipotentiary of the French government. His grandfather, Gustave Bezon, was a lieutenant in the French navy, under Napoleon I., was present under the orders of Admiral De Brueys at the battle of Aboukir, in Egypt, and also at Trafalgar, and immigrated to the United States when the Bourbons regained the government of France. His father has devoted the greater part of his life to mercantile pursuits, was book-keeper and confidential clerk of large commercial firms of New Orleans, and was elected, before the Civil war, by popular vote, clerk of the Third District court of the parish of Orleans. Dr. Bezon was attending the Jesuit college of New Orleans at the time of the breaking out of our Civil war, and this prevented him from graduating from said college. At the return of peace, he took up the study of medicine and graduated with honor from the Medical University of Louisiana (now Tulane University) in the class of 1871. He immediately began practicing in New Orleans, and since that time has been successfully occupied with the prosecution of his chosen profession, meeting with great success, and during that period, his career as a practitioner and thorough student of medicine has won him no less a reputation than have his personal characteristics as a citizen. He was appointed by the Governor of Louisiana coroner of the city of New Orleans. After this, for one term, he was sanitary inspector of the Third District of New Orleans, and is at present a member of the board of health of his native state. He is prominent in his profession, has built up a large practice and has won the confidence of all with whom he has any dealings. He was married in 1873 to Miss Leontine de Vezin, a native of Louisiana, and they have five living children: Ralph, Emilie, Albert, Edouard and George. Stephen Vizzini 2/17/00 The subject of this article is my Great Great Grandfather Dr. Henry Bezou. The article misspells his name "Bezon" instead of "Bezou". His daughter, Émilie, was my Great Grandmother and married Morinville Jean Baptiste Guérin Jr. Ézilda was not Dr. Bezou's wife, but his mother, Louise Ézilda Boudousquié Blache. His wife was Léontine Olivier De Vézin who was the Great Granddaughter of Charles Frederic de Forcelle Olivier de Vézin. I do have one or two scanned newspaper articles about Dr. Bezou and his father Judge Bezou. I will check with my source and, if possible, upload these to your web site. Thanks again Steve Vizzini
