Daniels, a prominent young man of the steamship agency of A.. K. Miller, Meletta & Co., first saw the light of day in New Orleans in December, 1858, and at an early age showed unusual business ability. He was educated in the public schools and when fifteen years of age branched out as a messenger boy for the above mentioned firm. This was in 1873, and by his honesty, uprightness and excellent business acumen he grew in favor with members of the firm until at the present time he himself is one of its most active members. This is the largest ship and steamship agency and brokerage firm in the South, was established in 1871, and is doing a very extensive business. Mr. Daniels became a member of the city council in April, 1888. He is now holding that position, from the Fifth district, and in February, 1891, he was appointed a member of the Orleans Board of Levee commissioners, which position he holds in a very satisfactory and creditable manner at the present time. In politics he advocates the principles of the democratic party and he takes a deep interest in political affairs. Although young in years, Mr. Daniels held in the highest estimation in the city for his many social and business qualities. He is a fine specimen of physical manhood and would attract attention in any assembly. Socially he is a member of the American Legion of Honor, Knights of Honor and is past dictator of the last named order, representing grand lodge in assembly of 1885. Our subject selected his wife in the person of Miss Cora R. Booth, of East Baton Rouge, La., and they have a very pleasant home in the city. Both hold membership in the Methodist Episcopal church south, and are classed among the representative citizens of the city. Our subject's father was born in Paris, France, and mother in County Clare, Ireland. Both are living and esteemed residents of New Orleans.
