Lowe is a manufacturer of cisterns, at 107 St. Charles street, which business was founded in 1888, and it is only necessary to look at his work to realize that he thoroughly understands his calling. He has an extensive patronage throughout the South, Central America and South America, and the magnitude of his business necessitates the employment of at least twelve skilled workmen. His business connections are being constantly extended and he already has more orders than he can conveniently fill. He is a practical cistern maker and has been familiar with the details of the calling since he was a lad. He was born in this city, April 6, 1856, to John F. Lowe, a native of England, who came to New Orleans when a young man, having previously learned the trade of a machinist in his native country. He was also married there, and he and his wife are residents of New Orleans. He has been connected with all the foundries of the city, in different capacities, and was a master workman. His wife, who was formerly Miss Ann Grieves, bore her husband four children, William C. being third in order of birth. The latter was educated in the city schools, and at the age of fifteen years began learning the trade of cistern maker, and ha since been success- fully connected with that line of work. For eleven years he was manager for R. B. Mitchell, and at one time was the leading manufacturer in New Orleans. His duties now are as salesman and general manager, but if necessary he can do as fine work as any employee he has ever had. He belongs to Protector No. 2 of the fire department, in which he has been superintendent, assistant engineer, and has held other offices. Socially he belongs to Eagle lodge, No. 57, of the K. of P., and politically he is a supporter of democratic principles. His marriage was celebrated in the year 1878 to Miss Cora Hebert of this city, by whom he is the father of one son: William John.
