Mignot, administrator of the St. Louis cathedral, of New Orleans, was born in Burgundy, France, April 11, 1842, and in the country of his birth his rudimentary education was obtained. He was for some time an attendant of the seminary at Dijon, Burgundy, but left this institution in 1866 to come to New Orleans, and here finished his theological studies in the seminary of this city. He was ordained on April 21, 1868, and his first charge was as assistant pastor of St. Peter's church of New Orleans. In 1870 he became curate at the St. Louis cathedral, and two years later he was made administrator of the same church, the pastorate of which he still retains. He has been very active in benevolent work, is an ardent friend and promoter of all public enterprises, and his zeal and influence in everything affecting the general weal of those with whom his calling throws him in contact, is vast, and his many noble and disinterested deeds will surely have their reward in the life to come. Although strong in his religious faith, he is not intolerant of other forms of religion, and numbers among his warm friends many ministers of different denominations. He was the chief mover, promoter and organizer of the establishment of the deaf and dumb asylum, at Chinchuba, Mandeville parish, La., in 1890, and is at present engaged in raising funds for the erection of another building at the same place, in order to have a building for males and another for females. He is justly proud of the work he has done in this direction, and this noble institution will long stand as a monument to his wisdom, kindness of heart and interest in those less fortunate than himself.
