St. Mary's Cemetery, Algiers, Orleans Parish, LA

The original headstone was broken and was in the yard of one of my relatives 
who took it with her when she moved to Tomball, TX where it is located today 
(Dec. 2001).

I have submitted much information to the Orleans Parish website on this 
family.

These are known burials in the plot (below are presumed), as many of the 
records were lost in a fire at Holy Name of Mary Church.  

John Peter Spellman
Born: November 18, 1869 in Algiers, Orleans Parish, LA
Died: May 27, 1928 in Algiers, Orleans Parish, LA
Wife: Caroline (Carrie) Peterson, Parents: Michael Spellman and Julia Mary 
Nolan Spellman.  One Sibling: Mary Ellen Spellman Amann.
Children:  Joseph Mathew Spellman, John Richard Spellman, Mary Ellen Spellman 
Isaac, Walter Raymond Spellman, Theodore Michael Spellman, Cecelia Mary 
Spellman Bodet, Velma Claire Spellman, and Ernest Peterson Spellman, Sr.

Caroline (Carrie) Peterson Spellman
Born: November 01, 1869 in Algiers, Orleans Parish, LA
Died: October 06, 1939 in Algiers, Orleans Parish, LA
Husband: John Peter Spellman, parents: Martin Peterson and Mary J. Roach(e) 
Peterson. No siblings as father died at sea when mother was pregnant with 
her.
Cause of death: Cerebral Hemorrhage w/hemiplegia, myocarditis and 
hypertension

Walter Raymond Spellman
Born: January 02, 1900 in Algiers, Orleans Parish, LA
Died: February 06, 1902, in Algiers, Orleans Parish, LA
Parents:  Michael Spellman and Julia Mary Nolan Spellman
Cause of death: Enteritis

Joseph Matthew (Bim) Spellman
Born: March 19, 1894 in Algiers, Orleans Parish, LA
Died: August 03, 1954 in Algiers, Orleans Parish, LA
Wife: Alma (Pat) Quinn (born November 21, 1896 and died January 04, 1977, she 
is buried in St. Patrick Cemetery, No. 1, New Orleans, Orleans Parish, LA)  I 
believe the reason that she was buried in another cemetery was that there was 
only "room for one more" and Joseph had one sister left living who planned to 
be buried here (other family members had their own sites). Joseph and Alma 
had no children.

Mary Ellen Spellman Isaac
Born: September 27, 1897 in Algiers, Orleans Parish, LA
Died:  March 04, 1970 in Algiers, Orleans Parish, LA
Parents:  John Peter Spellman and Caroline (Carrie) Peterson Spellman
Was married to George A. Isaac, Sr. and divorced.  His information and 
whereabouts are unknown, but believed to have gone to Texas.  Two children: 
George A. Isaac, Sr. and Ronald J. Isaac.
Cause of Death:  Leukemia

Velma Claire Spellman
Born: November 24, 1911 in Algiers, Orleans Parish, LA
Died: November 11, 1988 in Algiers, Orleans Parish, LA
Parents:  John Peter Spellman and Caroline (Carrie) Peterson Spellman
Never married, no children

Believed to be buried here:
Michael Spellman
Born: November 1822, County Cork, Ireland
Died: April 26, 1889 in Algiers, Orleans Parish, LA

Parents and siblings are unknown at this time.  Known children: Mary Ellen 
Spellman Amann and John Peter Spellman
Cause of Death: Paralysis from cerebral effusion

Julia Mary Nolan Spellman
Born: August 09, 1841 in Tullow, County Carlow, Ireland
Died: January 08, 1895 in Algiers, Orleans Parish, LA
Wife of Michael Spellman
Cause of Death: Carcinoma of the throat
Parents are unknown.  One known sibling:  Mathew Nolan, born abt 1844 in 
Tullow, County Carlow, Ireland.  His date of death is believed to have been 
before 1880, as two of his 4 children were living with Michael and Julia 
Spellman in the 1880 Census.
He was married to Mary Ann Norris and had 4 children: John Peter Nolan, Julia 
Mary Nolan, Mary Ellen Nolan Farrell, Mathew M. Nolan.  I have information on 
the lines of John Peter and Julia Mary.
