All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** No. 1970 7th March 1841 Recording Sale of House and Lot by John Robert Brown to David Johnston Revised 25 March 1843 State of Louisiana Parish of Plaquemines Balize March 7th 1841 Know all men, by these presents, that I , John Robert Brown of this state, parish and place, do for and in consideration of hte sun of Nine hundred dollars to be paid in the following manner, namely, by a note of hand, drawn by David Johnston of the state, parish, and place and endorsed by the president of the Pilots Benevolent Association for te said sum of Nine hundred dollars and payable monthly by the one half of the said David Johnton shares as a Pilot of the said Benevolent Association, be it more or less, until final payment the receipt of said note endosed by James B. Williams, the President of the said Association, I do hereby acknowledge and declare myself satisfied. And do grant, bargain, sell and make over tot he said David Johnston, his heirs, and assigns forever, he being present and accepting a dwelling house and lot, at this place, bounded above by the lot of the said John R. Brown and below by property belonging to Edward Clarke, and measuring thirty six feet front with the same depth as my own title calls for. To hav and to hold the said lot and property with all the improvement thereon to him and his heirs forever, and do fully guarantee possession and title to said house, lot and improvements from Mortgage and from all and every claim of any person or persons whatever holding however a provisional mortgage on the property myself until final payment of the aforesaid note and its amount of Nine hundred dollars, and on my granting to the said David Johnston a receipt for the said sum of Nine hundred dollars by monthly installments or otherwise, the provisional mortgage to be null and void and this my Bill of Sale to him to be in full force and virtue. Taylor, a Justice of the Peace, in and for this Parish declare and certify that I have questioned and examine Mrs. Charlotte Brown, the lawful wife of John R. Brown, as to her free will and opinions as it regards the above sale and she has declared to me, that she sanctions and approves of the said sale and transfer of the propety and that she so of her own free will and concern without persuasion, fear, and influence of her husband, John R. Brown, and in witness of her free and voluntary concerns she has hereunto made her mark in presence of the undersigned Justice of Peace and witnesses knowing and clearly understanding the purpose and meaning thereof.
