"Duquesnay" Submitted by Maurice Duvic Sr ********************************************** Copyright. Believe he used a title but I can't remember it He lived somewhere around South Scott, near Tulane Ave. I'm sure he wasn't a descendent of Fr. D :-) but I would like to learn more about that family. I was too young to learn particulars. Sometime during the 30's - after repeal of prohibition - l933 ? - the American Can Co.(North Cortez St. 500 block?) began paying its employees by check and there was a barroom - Italian name - on N. Scott St. that used to cash these checks for many of the employees. Also, around this time there was a very active gang of bank robbers - Cefalu. Mr. D. was in the bar at noon or mid-morning one day when this gang entered the bar. He had a great story of the "proceedings." I believe there were shots fired, maybe someone shot. Lou: You mention "prejudice and hard feelings". What's that about? Was Fr. D. a Jesuit? Was St. Augustine's Church founded by them? Best regards to all, P.S. Had half-inch last night and it's starting to rain again. Hallelujah !
