When did that close - or move to the French Qt? And the little bar across Pontchartrain Blvd from the Basin, near the little bridged entrance to the old Yacht Club pen? Who was its Small children use to "bathe" in the fountain in West End Park. When did that stop? P.S. My wife just passed by and provided the answer to my first question: The My - O - My Club ! I use to have fun bringing unsuspecting "visiting firemen" there! And - where did the name "Bucktown" come from? **************************************************************************** Yep, the club was the "My O My" and from what I overheard a very naughty place! I think I remember my parents saying that it burned down (in the early 1950s, I think), and that's when it moved to the Quarter. And the West End fountain was wonderful. It was manually run - the controller would open a metal door in the center raised part of the fountain and then would sit inside pushing and flipping switches to make the waters shoot up and the lights change. We loved watching him. It was so hot and stuffy in there that he would leave the door open, allowing us to watch him. And Ralph Schultz's Fresh Hardware was the gathering spot for all local gamblers! They had card games going on in the back pretty much on a daily basis, from what I remember Dad saying. I loved the smell of the oiled floors and dusty stock in that place! Does anyone remember the fishing tournaments that were held at West End? I remember gigantic fish hanging that were taller than I was (probably about 4') that had been caught in Lake Pontchartrain! Tarpon and sharks stick vividly in my memory. And there used to be boat races along the lakeshore from West End (my dad won once)... these were regular pleasure boats, not racing boats. The lake was so alive and full of activity. Margie Vicknair-Pray
