All I remember about it was that its finish was a light "sherbert" green porcelain and the flame came on with a "whoosh" when you turned the hot water faucet on. The house was a bungalow-style shotgun double, probably built in the 1920s. My parents complained about its inadequacy, particularly on winter mornings. When I lived in Palm Beach County, I worked as a contractor at Siemanns with a some of the managers from Germany who removed the hot water heaters from the homes they purchased. Didn't believe in hot water. Some kind of callisthenics regime that lots of Germans believed in. Took cold showers even in winter in Germany, and thought that any hot water use in south Florida was absolutely decadent. Speaking of "bellywash" pop, does anyone remember a soft drink called "Hiball"? My son came home from a yard sale with an old bottle, six-ounce size like old time Coca Cola, and with the single word "Hiball" embossed in the glass in fancy script (also like the Coca Cola logo). My own memory goes back to the 1940s and the grownup talk I was exposed to extends that back probably into the 20s and 30s or earlier, but I don't ever remember hearing about Hiball Cola. Anyone? My parents called Hawaiian Punch "bellywash." My favorite was Delaware Punch.
