Second District Civil War Draftees, M - P, April 11 through May 6, 1865 Orleans Parish, LA Submitted by: Colleen Fitzpatrick Source: The Daily Picayune Louisiana Section Main Branch New Orleans Public Library Date: March 2000 ************************************************* Submitted to the LAGenWeb Archives ************************************************ Copyright. All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http:/www.usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ************************************************ Submitter's Note: These records were transcribed from microfilms and xeroxes of the original Daily Picayune, published between March and May, 1865. Some of the print is not in optimum condition, and it is hard to read. In searching for a particular name, be sure to check variations that might appear due to poor quality of the original. For example, if you are searching for the name Mellon, also look for Melion, as, in print a badly typed "l" could appear to the transcriber as an "i". Also, the letter "n" was often hard to distinguish from the letter "u". There are several draft numbers which were not used. They are: 199, 345, 370, and 1900. Also, there are two 1813's. If a first name, an occupation, or an address was not given, it is denoted by (none). This means there could have been one, only it was not mentioned. Sometimes, the words "none" and "no occupation" were actually used in the list; in this case, the words appear, without parentheses. This indicates that it was stated that the person had no address or occupation. In printing this file, the reader should set his page layout to "landscape" with both the left and the right margins set to 0.5".
