All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ************************************************ ROBERT LIENHARD HONORED Sue Fucich Unveils Plaque Mr. Lienhard's Family, Close Friends and Co-workers Honor Past President On the morning of May 17th, in the main aisle of the store, a beautiful bronze plaque was unveiled, to the memory of Mr. Robert Lienhard. Mr. Ben C. Pitts, life-long friend of Mr. Lienhard's introduced Mr. Hugh Evans [Pres. & Gen. Manager of D.H. Holmes] who commented as follows: "We are gathered together today to honor a great man by dedicating a plaque to Mr. Robert Lienhard. Present are his relatives, his friends and many of the people who worked with him during his lifetime." "Bob Lienhard, born November 2nd, 1880, started as a messenger boy in D.H. Holmes in 1894. His first compensation was $2,00 a week. He was very rapidly promoted due to his hard work and outstanding ability and in 1898 he was made Chief Bookeeper although he was only 18 years old; 3 years later, at 21, he was Office Supervisor; 5 years later he was Office and Credit Manager; 5 years later he became Ass't Secretary and Ass't Treasurer. He was elected to the Board of Directors of D.H. Holmes in 1937 and on October 18th of that same year he was named President of this great store, which he headed until December 2nd, 1947, when he passed away at the age of 67. This brief resume of his business career is outstanding, but even more outstanding were his personal traits, his kindness and his understanding, his help and his advice, his enthusiasm and his courage were inspiration to everyone who had the priviledge of working with him and particularly to me." "I DECLARE that this plaque shall hang in an honored place in this store for posterity to know how fortunate the D.H. Holmes Company was when Robert Lienhard chose this place to dedicate his business life and I further Declare that it shall hang in this honored place so long as this store shall endure." Inscription on the plaque reads as follows: "In lasting memery of Robert Lienhard 1880-1947. 53 years of service to D.H. Holmes Co., Ltd., Office Boy 1894-- Bookeeper 1903-- Office Manager 1906-- Assistant Secretary-- Assistant Treasurer 1911, President and General Manager 1937-1947."
