Baumgarten was seventy-two years of age and lived at No. 3825 Customhouse street. Last Thursday night, about 9:56 o’clock, he was walking across the tracks at Cortez and Canal streets, when he was struck by a West End train. When the old man was picked up it was found that his left leg was broken below the knee and that he was injured about the ribs. He was taken to the Charity Hospital. The shock was too great for a rally and the aged sufferer passed away at 3 o’clock yesterday afternoon. The train which knocked Baumgarten down was in charge of conductor A. Houpt and Motorman L. E. Printiss.
