The special services suggested by Archbishop Janssens were carried out at the different churches and institutions of learning. The different Italian organizations and societies celebrated the event by a grand festival at the Fair Grounds. The services at the Cathedral last night as announced in The Item, were very imposing and impressive. At 7 p.m. about sixty clergymen assembled at the archbishopric?, and thence reached this sacred edifice, to the grand tomes of the organ, they proceeded up the main aisle and took up their respective positions within the sanctuary. In front of the High Alter a temporary platform had been erected and tastefully decorated for the orators of the evening. After the rendition of the Veni Creator by the choir, Very Rev. Father Mignot, the master of ceremonies, delivered the first sermon in Spanish, taking for his text, "I have made thee a name like that of one of the great ones that are renowned in this earth." At the termination of Father Mignot's address Miss Fremaux's fine contralto voice was heard in a solo, "Extase," by Solomon. Very Rev. Father G. A. Rouxel next delivered an eloquent Franch oration. An "Ave Maria" was sung and then in English with clear intonations and ardent enthusiarm. At the conclusion of the Archbishop's address the choir rendered Kitziger's "Veni Creator." Rev. Father Ahlert then spoke in German, and after he had finished, Gounod's "Ave Maria" was artistically rendered by Miss E. Labretonne. The last oration of the evening was delivered by Rev. Father G. Grambera in Italian, which was pronounced a masterpiece of eloquence and replete with oratorical gems. Archbishop Janssens then donned the vestments required for the benediction of the Blessed Sacrament, being attend by Vicar General Bogaerts, and the ceremony was proceeded with. The clergy sang to the "Deum" and the congregation dispersed. The following gentlemen acted as ushers and contributed in a great measure towards the comfort of the people attending the celebration: Messrs. Felix Puig, chairman; Adolph Roquet, Fernando Puig, S. The Italian Festival a Grand Success A large crowd visited the Fair Grounds yesterday to join in the grand festival and Columbian celebration given by the Federanzione Italjana Garibaldi. The ground were handsomely decorated, as were also the grand stand and dancing hall. The ceremonies began at 2'o'clock, with an address of welcome by Mr. U. Marinoni, Jr. Mayor Fitzpatrick was then introduced and delivered an eloquent address. Dr. Juan Hava, Mr. L. P. Bouby, and Mr. John Rocchi, the orator of the day, also deliverdd short addressed. During the speech making the band played the Italian "Hymn," "The Maseillaise," and "The Bonnie Blue Flag." At the conclusion of the opening ceremonies the games and races were commenced. The first event was a bicycle race of one mile, which was won by Alciatore in four minutes. The 100 years sack race was won by Geo. Nagle. Geo. Dirmenstein won the mile foot race, and B. Martina the 150 yards race. The judge was S. R. Socola and the timer L. . Tortorich. At night a grand display of fireworks took place and dancing continued up to a late hour. Mazzola, V. Moreci, F. Parrino, L. Poletti, G. Rumiano, E. Trois, M. Venuti, G. Rocchi. One-quarter of the proceeds of the day will be donated to the Charity Hospital.
