All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ************************************************ Biloxi - Mrs. Frances Tedesco Hunt, 84, a prominent Biloxi musician, died Friday, Feb. 14, 1986, in Biloxi, after a brief illiness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter "Skeet" Hunt, founding captain of the Gulf Coast Carnival Association. Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Rosalie Tedesco of Biloxi, and three foster sisters, Mrs. Edwin Schneider of Ocean Springs, Mrs. A.D. Fournier, Sr. and Mrs. Richard Chinn, both of Biloxi. Mrs. Hunt graduated from Sacred Heart Academy in 1919. She studied voice, piano and organ under Sr. M. Theresa Dobyna, who had been a pupil of Franz Liszt. After graduation, she studied voice with Madam Jeanne Fedor in New Orleans. Mrs. Hunt was one of the organizers of Sacred Heart Alumni in 1920, which she served as president for 13 years. She also served as president of the Mississippi Federated Mercy Alumnae Association for four years and was Governor of the Mississippi Chapter of the International Federation of Catholic Alumni. She became an organist at Nativity BVM Church, Biloxi, in 1918 and served till 1941, when she moved to Washington, D.C. While in Washington, she was an active member of the Friday Morning Music Club, the Washington Music Teacher's Association, the Washington Chamber Music Guild and the Mississippi State Society. She worked in the office of Senator James O. Eastland for five years. She became Choral Director at Sacred Heart Girl's School in 1950 and again served as organist at Church of the Nativity till 1961. She was an organist at Keesler Air Force Base, 1961-71 and then went back to Nativity where whe retired in 1979. In her retirement, she served as organist at Our Mother of Sorrows Church in Biloxi. She became a member of the Bilixi Music Club in 1925 and has served in every office and as president 4 times. She was a charter member of the Biloxi Altrusa, serving the organization as treasurer, secretary, a member of the board and as Corresponding Secretary for the past 4 years. She was listed in Who's Who in American Women in 1971 and Personalties of the South in 1972. She was selected as Biloxi Career Woman of the Year 1977.
