Butler Thursday at 11 a.m. in Lawless Memorial Chapel on the school campus. Butler, president of Dillard from 1969 through 1973, died Jan. 9 in Washington, D.C. A funeral was held Jan. 14 in his hometown of Mobile, Ala. The speakers at the service will include three people who worked with Butler at Dillard: Charles C. Teamer, vice president for fiscal affairs; Barbara G. Thompson, chairwoman of the social science division; and C.L. Reynolds, retired associate professor of education and mathematics. The Dillard choir will perform at the service, which is open to the public. Butler was one of the legendary Tuskegee airmen during World War II. Before joining Dillard, he was assistant to the U.S. commissioner of education and held positions at Talladega College, Wayne State University and Texas Southern University After leaving Dillard, he became director of the Office of Leadership Development in Higher Education for the American Council of Education. He later was president of the Robert R. Moton Research Institute in Virginia and vice president of the University of the District of Columbia.
