Kullman, a lawyer and community activist, died Saturday afternoon at his home after a brief illness. He was 89. Mr. Kullman, who was born in Natchez, Miss., lived in New Orleans since 1930, when he became a founding partner of the law firm of Kullman, Inman, Bee, Downing and Banta. He was a graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, N.H., and Harvard University and Harvard Law School in Cambridge, Mass. He was a member of the American, Louisiana and New Orleans bar associations, was twice president of the Jewish Federation of Greater New Orleans and was a former chairman of the Jewish Welfare Fund. He also was a past president of the Council of Social Agencies, Wilowood Home of Jewish Aged, Touro Synagogue and B'nai B'rith New Orleans Lodge 0182. Mr. Kullman was also a former member of the Committee of Grants of the New Orleans Community Chest and former co-chairman of the National Conference of Christians and Jews. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Isaacs Kullman; three sons, Frederick S. Kullman of Bellingham, Wash., Paul I. Kullman and Lawrence S. Kullman; a brother, Wilfred M. Kullman Sr.; four grandchildren; and four stepgrandchildren. A funeral will be held today at 3:30 p.m. at Touro Synagogue at St. Charles Avenue and General Pershing Street. Rabbi David Goldstein and Cantor Stephen Dubov will officiate. Visitation will begin at 2:30 p.m. Tharp-Sontheimer- Tharp Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
