McFloyd's co-workers remember the 19-year-old as a friendly, dependable woman who rarely complained. "She got along with everyone here," said friend and fellow waitress Trenise Irvin. "I never heard her complain about anything but him," she said, referring to Gill Jasmine, 28. Police said Jasmine confessed to shooting McFloyd, seven months pregnant with their son, during an argument outside his LaPlace apartment. "We didn't think it was that serious to say anything." McFloyd died from a single .380 caliber gunshot wound in the back of her head. Jasmine is in jail, booked with one count of first-degree murder and one count of first-degree feticide. McFloyd, the oldest of Marjorie and Edward McFloyd's six children, graduated from Francis T. Nicholls High School in New Orleans. She grew up in New Orleans' 9th Ward, and moved to Reserve's Homewood subdivision with her family three years ago. She had been working at Shoney's for nearly a year, as well as at Mervyn's in Kenner. Shoney's workers also raised money for a plaque in memory of McFloyd to give to her mother. "It was a total shock," manager Leila Lyons said. "She will be missed." Donations to McFloyd's burial fund may be dropped off at the front counter of Shoney's, or mailed to 4293 U.S. 51., LaPlace, La. 70068.
