Fishman, a retired lawyer at Sessions & Fishman, died Saturday of cancer at Touro Infirmary. He was 81. Mr. Fishman was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He graduated from Alcee Fortier Senior High School and Loyola University. He graduated cum laude from Loyola Law School. He was a member of Alpha Sigma Nu Honorary Fraternity and an honorary member of Blue Key National Honor Fraternity. He was a former clerk for Justice Howard McCaleb Jr. of the Louisiana Supreme Court. In 1942, he was named Associate Rent Attorney for the Office of Price Administration. Two years later, he began his private law practice with Yarrut & Stich, later known as Yarrut & Fishman, and as Fishman, Reuter, Rosenson, d'Aquin & Stich. He was the founding partner of the firm Sessions & Fishman. Mr. Fishman retired in 1984 and became senior counsel to the firm. He was past president of the Community Chest and the Children's Bureau. He was a former member of the New Orleans Bar Association and its executive committee, the Louisiana State Bar Association and the American Bar Association. He was director of the Bank of New Orleans and Trust Co., First Commerce Corp. and First National Bank of Commerce; a board member of New Orleans Tourist Commission, the Jewish Welfare Federation, the Jewish Community Center, the New Orleans Home for the Jewish Aged, Gates of Prayer Synagogue and Touro Synagogue. Survivors include his wife, Elise Yarrut Fishman; a son, Louis Yarrut Fishman; a daughter, Ann C. Fishman; and five grandchildren. A graveside service will be held today at 3 p.m. at Metairie Cemetery. Tharp-Sontheimer-Tharp Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
