All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ************************************************ Joseph Edward Leininger, a retired mechanical and electrical consulting engineer, died Thursday at East Jefferson General Hospital. He was 85. Mr. Leininger was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He graduated from Jesuit High School and Tulane University and did graduate studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He was a lieutenant commander in the Navy during World War II. He was president of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers in 1951 and of the Construction Industry Association and the Consulting Engineers Council in 1965. Mr. Leininger was president of Associated Catholic Charities in 1950 and chairman of the Marian Year Mass in 1954. He was a parishioner of St. Dominic Catholic Church and a member of the American Arbitration Association, United Fund Committee on Agency Relations, Papal Visit Committee, board of St. Vincent's Infant Home, Serra Club, St. Dominic Holy Name Society, St. Dominic Council of the Knights of Columbus, Dorians and Hermes Carnival organizations, Suburban Gun and Rod Club and National Fire Protection Association. He was a volunteer instructor for the New Orleans Power Squadron and president of the Delta Parishes Code Committee. Survivors include his wife, Roberta Anderson Leininger; two daughters, Janice Alicia Leininger and Mary Ann Sunseri; and a grandchild. A Mass will be said today at 2 p.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Burial will be in All Saints Mausoleum in Metairie Cemetery.
