All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ************************************************ Bonnie O'Brien Maestri, a faculty member at Loyola University and doctoral nursing student at LSU Medical Center, died Thursday of ovarian cancer at her home. She was 46. Mrs. Maestri was born in New Orleans and lived in River Ridge for the past 12 years. She graduated from St. Mary's Dominican High School and St. Mary's Dominican College. She received her nursing degree from William Carey College and her master's degree in nursing from LSU Medical Center. An expert nursing clinician in women's health, she started many women's health programs in New Orleans, including Bodycues, Resolve Through Sharing for prenatal bereavement, Antepartal Home Health Care and Transitions. Mrs. Maestri was a member of the American Nurse's Association, Sigma Theta Tau (an international honor society of nursing) Epsilon Nu Chapter, APSO/Lamaze, the Association of Women's Health, Obstetrical and Neonatal Nursing, a Test Item Writer for NAACOG Certification Corp, and was named as one of New Orleans "Great 100 Nurses" in 1993. She is survived by her husband, Tom Maestri; two sons, Jonathan and Jordan Maestri; a daughter, Veronica Maestri; her parents, Wilbur and Dolores O'Brien; two sisters, Kelly O'Brien Baldwin of San Diego and Colleen O'Brien LaGraize. A Mass will be said Saturday at 1 p.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. Visitation will be today from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. She will be buried in Metairie Cemetery.
