Keogh, 64, died Wednesday night at Baton Rouge General Hospital, five days after being admitted for a blood vessel that burst in his brain, family members said. "It was totally unexpected. Like a bolt out of the blue," said Reggie Keogh, a former law partner with his brother. Keogh retired from the bench April 30 to begin practicing law with longtime friend Jerry McKernan. Fellow District Judge A. Foster Sanders called Keogh "an extraordinary person with a truly great spirit and soul." Keogh was appointed to the bench on an interim basis in 1984, only weeks after winning election to a full, six-year term on the court. He was a criminal court judge in the 19th Judicial District for three years and a civil court judge for nine years. He was in the state House between 1964 and 1968. At the time of his death, he was vice chairman of the American Bar Association's judicial ethics and responsibility committee. Keogh is survived by his wife, Julie.
