All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ************************************************ Rebecca Pachciarz Manuel, a registered nurse and administrator of perioperative services at Charity Hospital, died Tuesday of ovarian cancer at her home. She was 45. Mrs. Manuel worked more than 20 years at Charity, including six in charge of perioperative services. She helped develop programs such as the one-day surgery unit, elective admission clinic and surgical intermediate care areas. She also created a nurse recruitment and retention program. An operating suite was named the Rebecca Manuel Trauma Suite in her honor this month. Mrs. Manuel was born in Danville, Ill., and lived in New Orleans for the past 25 years. She received a master's degree in nursing from William Carey College. She was a girls' cabbageball team coach for 12 years for the Lakeview Booster Club and was a parishioner and Catholic Youth Organization leader at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Survivors include her husband, Gary J. Manuel; three daughters, Erica R., Adrienne and Hilary Manuel; her father, Casimir J. Pachciarz of Danville; four brothers, Ray Pachciarz of Indianapolis, John Pachciarz of Franklin, Tenn., Casey Pachciarz of Portland, Ore., and Mahlon Pachciarz of Flint, Mich.; and three sisters, Mary Eivers of Portland, Rita Brown of Hurdle Mills, N.C., and Ramona Swider. A Mass will be said Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1802 Tulane Ave. Visitation will be today from 7 to 10 p.m. at Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal St. Burial will be private.
